I have some rather novice questions about my new to me 24valve. I sold a mildly modded 12valve to buy this 24valve, but there are some characteristics the 12valve had that I would like to gain with my new truck. The 12valve had a VERY quick and instant throttle response ie. from idle, I could just blip the throttle and it would jump up 300-400rpms and right back down kinda like a hotrodded gasser. The truck of course had a plate in it, but I don't know what number or any other mods. Can a 24valve get quick response throttle like that, or is it the mechanical pump that does that?

Also, I know a lot of 12valves are running 4kgsk, to gain extra rpms, what is there for a 24valve to gain rpm?

Fuel tapers off at 2700 RPM and redlines at about 3400. Most people will start off with a box/chip and go from there. Instead of a fuel plate the electronics are what control fueling. I have an extra Edge EZ for a 2002 good for 65HP/180 TQ and 1/2MPG better fuel economy. modest, but a good start. much more than that and you will need to upgrade the clutch and get guages. Many people like the smarty. I have the edge Juice for the guages. I have some extra mechanical guages and A-pillar mount if you are looking to buy some. With a comp/juice I could slip my clutch with the 6spd, the clucth is rated to hold more HP than the 5spd

SMARTY for the respones

REDLINE MTL for 4K rpm.

I think they stack well.

Of course you will need valve springs minimum to run 4K safely.

:D I drive a 96 12v with a fuel plate very often, at work. I to like the instant throttle response! I then bought my 01 and was disappointed with throttle response, the edge comp did not help that at all. I then installed edge Jammer4s, now when i crack the throttle she puffs nicely, and i can get the truck rocking. It's almost as responsive the 12v. the 96 truck sold me on a cummins it's a company truck, and we all run it VERY HARD, it has 325k and still no motor work. She runs better the harder you run it! I wish the 24Vs did't idle so high, but from what i understand it can not be lowered, it's in the ECM. I will always be a big fan of the 12Vs! Don't get me wrong i love my 01! :D
