Basic warranty question re- BOMBS

As we know, there are all kinds of BOMBS... ... ... ... ... which of the following will cause the dealership to say 'out of luck, no warranty due to modifications'?



1. Muffler removed - straight pipe either 3" or 4"

2. BHAF

3. Injectors (if they even had a way of knowing)



Yeah, yeah, we're our own warranty station... ... ... ... ... but for me with only 40K miles ya never know if I'll need to try.

Depends on the dealer and how much bus. you do with him. I've had a VP44 replaced on a 99 that was tapped and had injectors. It was early on before they were checking at Chrysler, and the dealer is the one who sold and installed the Edge comp. Dad's dog chewed the seat up on his ford and the dealer waranteed it. They told him as many pickups as he had bought from them that it appeared that the stitching came loose. I know another guy at the same dealer who had to pay for an engine because he used a NAPA filter, and it plugged a cooling nozzle. Jake

3. Injectors (if they even had a way of knowing)

Anything other than a DD1 (I believe) do NOT have oem part numbers if I am not mistaken. I know of ONE case where a local dealer had questioned an owner on why those particular injectors (DDIII's) were in his truck.

I would have to agree with JFinke. An example: a coworker has a 2002 with 8,000 miles left on the warranty and his truck was stuttering intermittently over the last 2 weeks while towing and/or cruising down the interstate. He brought it in to the dealer and they diagnosed a bad injection pump brought on by a dying lift pump. First thing they asked was, "any chips?" He said, "no, but K&N, straight pipe, and gauges". They said, "no worries then... consider the new VP44 and lift pump taken care of by DC!" He had also bought the truck there.



I, on the otherhand, go in there for replacing a pinion seal that's splattering oil everywhere at 8,000 miles on my 2003 (way before mods in my signature). They told me that was "normal... seal takes time to seat" and that "I probably ran over something on the interstate that punctured the seal past the big pinion yoke flange, but we'll fix it under warranty (just because we are so swell - my words in the best Leave it to Beaver impression).



No, I didn't purchase the truck there. Yes, never been back there and have been doing all of my own maintenance since. Not one regret! Does help, though, that my friend has a nice shop!
