There would be a cover over the top

It doesn't hurt air flow to the intercooler anymore then if there was a winch.

Keeps wieght up front for sled pulling.

Out of the elements more then if mounted on frame under truck.

Nothing, as of yet, maybe a large Water/Meth tank, the pasenger side has an extra turbo and large air filter taking up space over there. You can never have enough room under the hood.

I was going to say that they are probably a heck of a lot more protected in that bumper than in the OEM location with and OEM bumper. Besides, in the engine compartment, they are exposed to that high heat as well.

Let me know how you do the grounding on the pass. battery. My 24V is going pass. side battery-less for a little while, then I'll be running 3 more batteries in the bed after some time passes.

BTW,, Why are you running two batteries again?

You could keep your driverside battery, and run those two as extra's

These things are too nose heavy to start with, without hanging the batteries as far forward as they can possibly be. I'd think they should go as far back on the frame as possible, maybe even behind the cab, if you are going to the trouble to relocate them. I've never figured out why they need to be under the hood in the first place.

I'm with you Ron. In an accident, the engine compartment provides an important and necessary added margin of protection to the batteries. No one likes to think about it, but they DO go BOOM.



I like the extra compartment in the bumper though. Perhaps you could put your harvested Pheasants, Chukars, Hungarians, Rabbits, Ducks, Geese, etc. up there to keep them cool and clean (out of the bed) in the Fall and Winter?

An Optima battery like the ones in the pic will never go BOOM. I've seen 'em dropped, beat , run over, completely smashed, direct shorted with 00 cable for welding on the trail... there won't be any problem running them in a bumper that beefy.

If I get in an acident and it penitrates the bumper I think I will have more serious stuff to worry about then two batteries, and yes there gell cells not sure about the Boom factor :G

I think this is a pretty common misconseption about the Optimas.



They are not a gel cell batteries. They are a "performance" (for lack of a better word) lead acid battery. I know no idea if they will explode as easily or not as a standard battery



BTW - I think the bumper would be a great place for the batteries. That is a great idea.

Most of you guys missed my point, it was simply a safety issue, if not for us, then for other folks that tend to get pinned in other vehicles in mva's. Not looking to flame anyone, just weighing what may "look good" vs. reality.

Scott - it's a good use of otherwise 'wasted space'. Having the batteries there isn't any more dangerous than the whole 7000# truck they're attached to... traveling at 70mph.



It's a great way to add weight to the front end for yankin' the great 40,000+ pound 'parts wreckers' we like to call weight sleds.

In general... I think the idea is GREAT - but only if you have to have more room under the hood.



For me personally, I'd prefer to have the batteries under the hood during the winter and not out front leading the way when it's 20 below. But for summer, I think you're onto someting neat.



Go for it and tell us how it works - all seasons.



If it does go Boom, then you've moved the boom further away from you - but maybe placed it into someone's front seat .



Hopefully an insurance company wouldn't say that you made the accident worse by putting a bomb right inside the other guy's car... ?
