Just finished changing all my heater hoses and those elbow hoses for the cooler under the turbo and started my 95 up and the volt meter is at 12v. The check engine light is on too. When I removed the alternator to get to 2 small hoses I grounded the batteries for a second removing the wiring harness on the back of the alternator. Did I short something out ????

Short out

I managed to short out the 120 amp fuse in the PDC it's the biggest fuse under the hood. BTW it was a dealer only item. I know your year of truck is not the same as mine but it's a shot in the dark.

I go along with Mad Bomber. The alternator hot wire goes to the battery through a fusible link or a big fuse depending on the vehicle.

If you have an ohm meter, check for continuity between the battery plus terminal and the alternator charging wire. I would venture a guess that you will find an open circuit.

I had a similiar problem and had to replace the alternator regulator. Same issue, new batteries but no charging. Hope this helps.

I found it. You guys were right it was the fuse link in the box on the drivers side of the truck. Thanks
