Costco used my bad batteries as the core, and restarted the clock. It was a no cost restart of my warranty.

It's all up to the department manager. I had a a-hole that wouldn't warranty tires so I went to Discount and no problem. Wrote an email to Costco and will not buy tires there again.

I like Costco's service and price but we got an un-repairable flat on our Honda Pilot's Michelins. P235-70-16 a very common size. Nothing in stock in all of San Diego. The manager said it would be 7-8 days for the replacement to come from the east coast. That's where they get their Michelins. He ended up sending me to Discount and said bring me back the receipt. The tire was half worn.
Discount sold me the replacement Michelin for 1/2 price which was in stock, of course, and threw in four replacement certificates.
Discount specializes in tires so that's where I go.

It was Michelin tires. They wanted certified receipts of the tires being rotated by a certified technician. Now there are some things I do not know or do but spinning lug nuts and rolling tires around is not on the list. I printed out the tire rotation maint. list but they said that was no good, both front and back tires with the same wear pattern was no good also. Discount disagreed and said they could tell they have been rotated and did the warranty.

Because I was mentioned in the first post in this thread, I thought I would weigh in.

I finally replaced the two 6 year old Batteries Plus X Power Group 27 batteries in my truck. Considering that they were not from a matching lot, they had done well in this ghastly climate. (I kept them on a float charge.) Before I took them out, I separated them electrically and gave them a full charge over 48 hours. Then I tested the self-discharge rates and kept the one battery that had the highest voltage after 72 hours. (The truck was getting other stuff done to it, so . . ) That battery ended up on the tongue of my travel trailer where it lives on.

Finding replacement Group 27 batteries in AGM was an interesting quest. I was not willing to expend $400 each for two batteries in a truck that's not being used much. I could find other uses for the $800. Flooded cell batteries here are a crapshoot, with maybe a 12 to 18 month life and certain corrosion in places I do not want it. So the batteries at $125 were not considered. To those that might wonder, yes, I have tried the "add water monthly" routine. Around here, it's "add water weekly" or daily.

I ended up buying a pair of the house brand Auto Zone AGM batteries that were actually in stock! They were not Group 27, but (I think) Group 65, the same as used in the 2004 CTD that I used at work. Some finagling was needed to the battery boxes and the hold-down, but they fit OK otherwise. And they work. Out the door, they were just under $400 for the pair. And they were from matching lots.

I have no clue how long they will last, but the truck starts again.

They are on float charge in parallel, just like the old ones. I am considering installing a manual battery disconnect so I can float charge them separately with two different chargers. Any thoughts on that idea?

Well nuts. It turns out that I got the batteries at O'Reilly Auto Parts and not Auto Zone. All else in my post is the same, though.

Auto Zone = Orange store. O'Reilly = Blue store. Gotta remember.

Make an Extreme Version already!!!

This past summer was brutal as it (unusual) didn't cool down much overnight. Record electric demand and all.

The good news is just one of these will crank the Cummins to life. I thought it was cranking just a little slower. Sure enough "Service ABS" popped up after engine start one AM.

Data Not Plausible from transfer case or something like that. Step one for electrical issues is to check ... and well found one passenger side battery just couldn't take the heat. No surprise.

The X2 batteries are on a 2 week back order and Batteries Plus are not substituting Odyssey for them like they were before. Supposedly they want to change both. I am using a spare generator set battery until they get my order in.

Cold snap yesterday and no crank. Had to jump start it. The Not-Amusing-Entertainment Booster packs didn't get me more than a single click.

I called several stores and other parts store chains looking for any AGM batteries that were available. Red Tops and Odyssey are hard to get in this size. Tracked down a Batteries Plus store that had some X2's just in stock.

My generator battery is now also ruined: tested bad.

The X2's only have a 4 year warranty now and cost $349.99 each for the 94R's now. They were $269.99 when I started this thread!
