Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Batteries

2002. I need to remove and clean corrosion from battery cables.

Service manual not clear on proper procedure. I dont want to mess up 'computer' etc.

Whats the proper procedure?

Just unhook them--negative first so you don't get any sparks.



If they stay disconnected for a little while, like ~10-60 minutes, all that will happen is the short term KAM (Keep Alive Memory) will be erased. That just means any codes stored might be cleared, and little things the PCM/ECM learns while operating will have to be re-learned.



In other words, nothing bad.
