I bought my truck used in January. I noticed that on the right front fender right below the hood seam spots of the paint that shows signs of acid. The only thing that I can figure out is that rain has blown in over the battery and it has come out from under the hood and onto the fender. Is there a case or a cover that could be installed over the batteries to stop this from happening? I will be changing the batteries in the next couple of weeks and I want to add some type of cover.

RHARVEY --

Since you're going to change out the batteries, I would strongly, STRONGLY recommend the Optima batteries. They are (effectively) a dry-cell. No boiling, no blowing up, no fumes, can mount in any orientation, and they are smaller for the same amount of CCAs. With a little modification, you can fit two in the place of one of yours.

People complain about them being too expensive. I have two responses.
(1) Buy them cheaper. I get mine from a place that has "blemished" batteries and pay LESS than $90 each -- same warranty as if I paid OVER $120 down the street.
(2) Add up how much you spend on batteries and see which is cheaper. Here in the valley of the sun I used to buy new batteries every year or year and a half. The heat just kills them. I've been running an Optima for 4 years now with no problem. What about the warranty on a cheaper battery? I was in Checker the other day and a guy came in to exchange his battery under warranty. I told him he should try the Optimas. He said they were too expensive and he would just keep replacing his every year. I overheard the clerk tell him "75 dollars and... " when he left with just a new battery. It didn't add up to me.

Because there are no fumes, you won't need a cover and the cables don't even corrode! They are awesome!

Where can I get the batteries'blemished' like you get? This is the type of batteries that I would want. The no mess type of batteries.

Thanks
