Well, i just sold my 91 ctd dually to my father. (still have my 95 ctd) and when the truck sits, the battery goes dead. His old 89 ctd does the same thing. I never noticed the battery drain when I owned the truck because I used it on a daily basis. is there an inherent problem with the first gens, or something to look for out of the ordinary? We may have to put a master switch on it as a last resort, but I really don't want to do that. Thanks.

You might try removing the IOD (ignition off drain) fuse if it is sitting idle more than a week or so. A bad diode in the alternator can also drain the battery but you would probably notice reduced output of alternatoer. The fuse should be in the panel at the end of dash. bg

My truck did that when I got it. The lighted ring around the key was cycling on all the time. Turned out to be a bad pin switch on the passengers door.

could be any number of things though.

I had similar problem..

I had a battery drain like yours, I finally found that the glove box light wasn't going off, the button to turn it off was broke. I would get the truck somewhere dark and see if you find a light not going off--dome, iginition, glove box, etc.
