Battery Heatsheild?

Can someone help with the material that covers (wraps around ) batteries has torn. Is this some kind of heat shield or what cant find any elect. connections to them as both batteries have them. My thought is that they are heat shield. How or what can I replace them and is there a better material for this thanks for your help this is what the one that is torn looks like

They're meant to insulate the batterys in cold weather. If your worried about it, just flip it to the fender side so you don't see it. Or just buy new ones.
