A friend of mine has suburban 6. 2l and everytime he is starting it the positive pole of the battery gets so hot that it melt, does anybody have any suggestions of what it might be (bad ground ?)

sounds like a bad positive pole connection or the is shorted internally causing it to draw too many amps. .

dual batteries or single? [should be 2 iirc all gm diesels have come with dual batteries

Bad starter motor pulling to many anps? Are the battery connections clean? Bad (shorted) battery(ies)? Bad pos. cable to starter?

I also would suspect poor connection at cable to post which will increase resistance which makes a lot of heat.

thanks guy for the input ,we checked and clean all connections, still does it ,turns but won't start, we suspect the starter to be the problem,we will replace it tomorrrow,
