O. K. last January the guys a diesel shop installed two new batteries. They are Excide 850 cca.
They really seamed to work great when new. But these past few days they seamed to have gotten weaker.
But I'am wondering about the size of the battery or actual dimension ? They are smaller than the origanal batteries that came with the truck. I'm thinking these little wonders can't take the load and are fading there life away.
Ive heard that bigger the battery and higher the cca the better and longer they last. They can take more punishment. Gonna try to get it in to get the batteries tested. Mechanics been busy during this little cold snap.
Any one else care too share thanks. Jeff H

The gentleman I now purchase all my batteries from here in my town said the Exides are not a very good battery for longevity. Something to do with the core material is thinner. As far as the size goes, I was perplexed on this issue as well. If I remeber correclty the Cummins has a type 27 battery. This is not to say that the replacement needs to be a type 27. I recently replaced mine with a type 24 (i think) and the physical size of the battery was smaller but the reserve was longer and the cca higher as compared to the same brand type 27. The "battery guy" said size is really not an absolute issue as to the quality of the battery?

If you don't want to spend big money on new ones (Optimas) Wolverine and Interstate are good batteries in my opinion.

I also got two physically smaller Interstates when I replaced my batteries. My salesman said the original batteries are large externally, but are only about 750 cca. The new batteries will easily start the truck with the headlights and blower on so they must be pretty good. Besides, $55 for two isn't a bad deal.
