Battery Tender question

I just parked my '96 2500 in a friend's garage for the winter. Although I plan to try and drive it on dry roads once a month, I'd like the keep the batteries in peak charge over the coming months. I've never used a Battery Tender and hoped I'd find some first-hand advice here.

1. Does that look like one that will work?
2. Can I keep the hood closed while it's hooked up?
3. What's the best spot under the hood to hook up the ground lead?
4. No special considerations with the dual batteries, correct?

As always, I appreciate the help I receive here - especially when I've never used a product before!

The batteries are connected so they should trickle charge as one. I put the ground lead right to the negative battery terminal. I stub out the lead and do keep the hood latched. No fumes should vent with these trickle units. The one you listed should work fine, deltran has been around a while. I keep one on my truck that does not get driven a lot in the winter, also on my kubota TLB that sits a lot more then it gets used.

I hook it up and place it below the hood line with the power cord coming up behind the bumper so the hood will close without hitting it. They should give you an adapter cord with terminal ends for a semi permanent install which eliminated the clips used on the battery. When parked long term I check the fluid level in the battery monthly and may have to add distilled water between 3 and 6 Months.

I should mention I always connect to the Pass. side battery, does it matter ?. I don't know but it is the end of the run so that's where I put it.

I appreciate the replies, guys! The one you both listed should save me some money, and if the 1.25 amp does the trick, there's no reason to spend the money on the 5 amp. Thanks again.
