Whose tuner [except Banks] provides trans temp?

I'm looking at the BBI .5 injectors for my dads 04, I was just wondering how many of you are running them and your thoughts on them and if you actually saw a increase in MPH like they say on the web site. Thanks

If you want an increase in MPH, just step on the throttle!

LOL!!! too true!!!

I have a set of BBi 1.0 injects, before they made the .5, waiting to go into the truck but not yet installed.

I got a good deal on them lightly used from an authorized dealer. I bought them because EVERYTHING that I have read from actual users indicates that BBi injectors are a marked improvement over stock in term of quietness and smoothness of idle and running.

I have no doubt that whatever "tricks" they use to achieve the superior, smoother fuel delivery could also get you better MPG but ONLY if you do NOT use the extra HP that they can easily and readily provide. I used to use a Smarty tuner that also claimed better MPG but the added power and instant throttle response was WAY TOO MUCH FUN to not use and thus my MPG actually suffered form stock tuning.

All that being said, you cannot go wrong with the BBi injectors-- they are a well designed and also well (re)built modification to oem Bosch injectors. In a sense, they are the way that Bosch SHOULD be building these injectors in the first place!!!

I don’t have them in my truck yet,but I have installed them in others trucks. One in particular is a great testament to the BBI .5. This truck had someone else’s 50 hp injectors of unknown to me brand. Those injectors had under 100k on them and had white smoke on cold starts and not a very good idle quality. The owner thought he had an engine problem,I convinced him the engine was fine just an injector issue.Installed the BBI’s and now smooth as glass idle. After driving it the owner put his smarty back to stock,he found the new injectors ran well enough to not need the smarty for his normal use. He claims the mileage has gone up about 2 mpg in daily driving

I have them and like them, My use'age is all over the chart so i really cant say how/if my mpg has changed.

A LOT of folks speak highly of them.

Can anybody speak to what BBI actually changed to make these better than Bosch as it applies to an '04 ? I'm in the market to replace my injectors fairly soon ( 150k+ with factory filtration ) after I add secondary 2 micron filter and am particularly interested in better fuel economy. What is it that CARB says no about with regards to these injectors ? I want to stay legal for emissions testing, but it seems from what I read that BBI .5 passes.

More MPH... yeah after it's floored the only way to get more MPH is to mod it. The Stage 1's I have feel like they want to rip the hitch clean off the 5th wheel and I have a tune that doesn't smoke. I didn't buy them for MPG: I bought them because I felt I was getting New Virgin Injectors without any re-used parts. Second was their claimed improvements and it's delivered with less knock/rattle/etc over the high mile tested and later failed injectors I had.

#1 difference and this is where emissions go out the door is the SAC vs. VCO. BBi's use SAC and others (like our OEM design) use VCO. That bubble of fuel under the nozzle is an emission source as it evaporates rather than burns. The emission tests we have to pass are not as strict as getting the engine emission design limits certified with the government.

Does the SAC nozzle cause idle haze?

JD, Your truck's build sheet sounds like a 'shes' a 'beast'!!

Will BBi .5’s pass a snap emission test in a stock 04 engine?

Are BBi’s virgin (brand new injectors) or reman.

They have passed and somewhere they have several emissions test results posted with the 0.5's. It's really not much more to just tune it in context of the injector cost. The choice is stage 0.5's stock tune or stage 1's with a tune to pass. I regret waiting on tuning my truck as I drove it stock for a few years.

BBI's are all new parts that then get 'molested' by them. Aka Modified. BBi also sells a reman line and their site is very clear on what you are buying new or reman.

I don't get cold enough weather to get a idle haze on the 5.9.

From big-bang-injection.com website:
They are detuned to lower emissions and exhaust gas temperatures. An increase in fuel economy will be noticed as they have a shorter injection duration, with the same energizing time as the OEM injectors. This makes the Stage 0.5 a perfect towing injector.

Since injector duration is a product of ECM driver, how is this bit of shorter injection duration magic happening ? I emailed big-bang-injection asking if there are emissions reports or other test data to support the claim of lower emissions and exhaust gas temperatures and how shorter injection duration is possible when this is controlled by driver in ECM. I'll update this post thread when I hear back.

From email reply:
"Our Stage 0.5 injectors have lower emissions and EGT´s than Stage 1 injectors. They pass the idle snap tests without tuning and we also have customers in CA that reported to pass CARB emission testing there.

We also want to get the CARB approval soon for them.

We have done several emission tests in the state of Washington with Stage 0.5´s and Stage 1´s. (Stage 0.5´s pass the test without tuning, Stage 1´s pass with tuning)

To your question about duration…..

Yes the ECM adjusts the pulse width but every injector needs hydraulic and mechanical time to close after that electrical current is shut off. In case of the Stage 0.5 injectors the time from “end of current” until the nozzle gets closed is shorter than it is with OEM injectors. That gets you a shorter than OEM injection duration with the same electrical duration.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Thank you and kind regards from Austria,

Martin"

BBI's are the only replacement injectors people should be using, IMO. They now their stuff and have a high quality product.

This is the one part you should not skimp out on with these trucks.

Just look at how many injector trouble threads there are across the boards for these trucks.

$3600 for set of BBI injectors vs $2300 for a set of Bosch (new) injectors. Lots of people who were smart enough to add filtration without any issues after 300-400k miles so I think the originals are certainly in contention particularly when you are not planning on adding more power.

They have been replaced twice already this will be the 3rd time and i have noticed that each time they are replaced the injector life seems to shorten, both times i have gotten Bosch units from a reputable injection shop.
