Pre-Turbo Pyro install...

I'm trying to install my new BD brake on my 2001 ETH. The last 4 days I have been spraying the 2 bolts on the exhaust down pipe clamp with penetrating oil. The one bolt i've been able to loosen, the other is frozen tight. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out?

See if you can get your hands on an oxyacetylene torch. I use it at work to heat up the elbow, not the bolt, when the bolts get that stubborned. Otherwise, you can cut the housing carefully in three different places near the bolt and use a chisel to knock the pieces out so that the bolt is freed. The second one is really limited to available tools and available space. The other thing you could try is to tighten it a bit and then try loosening it. Cursing helps. Happy New Year.

MAPP gas will do the trick if you don't have oxy. Just get those nuts cherry red and they will back right off. I also used MAPP to rmove the turbo clamp. Totally frozen all the way around, just kept at it until it freed up. Works on the downpipe bell to by the way.

get a 6 point socket in 13 mm, 1/2 drive. Use a wobbly end extension like the ones Sears sell that allow just a bit of misalignment. use enough total extensions so you can lay under the truck and use a very long 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar.

If none of this works, move out to the desert so stuff doesn't rust so much :D

Thanks for all the ideas. Gonna give them a try this weekend. I'll keep eveyone informed on how it goes

I used the method Joseph Donnelly used to remove mine. Worked great. I installed my BD 4" exhaust at the same time. Used my sawz-all to cut it so I could get it out. BTW, I love my BD exhaust break. Really slows the beast down the hills with 15K lb 5er hitched up.

Lots of luck with the install.

Well I finally was able to get the frozen bolt out. Figured i'd try it one more time with a socket . It took all i had but it did break loose. I now have the brake mounted, hoses run,and pretty much all the wiring hooked up. Now all i'm looking for is a power supply. Anyone have any suggestions?Hope to have it completed tommorow afternoon.

The job is done!Brake is on, everything else with the install went as smooth as can be. Overall i'm very pleased with it. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
