BD brake

My BD exhaust brake seems to work whenever it wants to. I have used it everyday for the last 2 years. The only changes I can see that may have an effect is the cold temperatures, and all the snow plowing I have done lately. Any suggestions? Is there something I need to adjust or lubricate?

BD suggests that you pull your vacumn lineand clean the crud out of it. It builds up a lot of carbin.

I have over 100K on mine and I use it everytime I drive the truck loaded or empty... ... ... ... NEVER a problem. Would not be without it. Good to hear about blowing out the vac. line.

Sounds like the little solenoid valve is sticking. Take it apart and clean it. If you don't have the instructions that came with the brake you can download them from BD's site. You should also relocate the little vent on the solenoid valve into the cab. They can suck up the ice, snow and water if left vented under hood.

i did take off two of the hoses. I sprayed a little brake klean and blew them out with compressed air. Did not even see anything come out. I got back in and at idle it engaged 20 times in a row. I thought I had it fixed. When I went out for a drive it still is not working correctly. Where can I find this solenoid valve to clean?

The two hoses that run from the brake cylinder go to the solenoid (spool) valve. Here is the link for the instructions, look at page 17.

You should also check your brake back pressure. Depending on your engine valve springs will ether be 15 or 25 psi max at low idle.
