Picked up my truck last night and only the clerk was there to take my $ of course. Everything seems in place I think. I turned on the BD coming home and was impressed with the retarding power in each gear. However it does whistle if you let up on the gas much. Is this normal? Turbo boost gauge never went above 20lb, but then I don't think my RPM went over 2400 during acceleration. What should I be looking for? EGT never got above 600 on the freeway running at 70 and cooled rapidly once I got home- half mile of 30mph zone:D Will talk to the mechanic tomarrow to get his advice and comments but I thought I'd query the group as there is one heck of alot of knowledge in TDR. :D

you and i both have exh leaks, lots of welding needes and i am even gonna jb some of the pinhole air leaks

later B... ... ... .....

ps blair the 4 inch bd rules

just need switch

Exhaust leaks could be the cause... they are generally easy to find, cause you will see the telltale black soot around them.

Most exhaust brakes hiss or whistle or something while activated. The sound is just a bit different depending on the exhaust brake and the exhaust system you have.

Make sure you turn off the exhaust brake when ya stop... it aids cooling!

The cure

I did check behind the clamp and came up with a little soot. So I figured that perhaps the clamp was loose. While tightening it I could feel that it was partially stripped. So I called the outfit that installed it and let them know that I was coming in and they could fix it while I watched. I looked the clamp over that they pulled and it obviously had been stripped a fair amount. I'll be taking it back in in a few weeks so they can check everything out. Wish I had the skills to do my own work!

whistle

Your exhaust brake will whistle at idle and when you let of "go pedal" because the brake flap closes of the exhaust and there is a small relief hole in the flap and as you can imagine, you are pushing 3" worth of exhaust through a little hole, just like whistling.

:D :D :D :D
