I've got a 2004. 5 with an Edge EZ 3 level box, a SB intake, boost/exhaust guage, and am about to install a BD exhaust brake... with compressor. Any thing I should worry about that is not covered in the manual? I have the shifter switch I will install also and am considering putting a small air tank to keep a reserve source of air.

Any help/suggestions?

Thanks,

Eddie

they go on easy and fast. on the reserve air there is a better way to do this. if you look at the air control unit there is a pressure switch on the left side. unscrew the switch and insert a t install a air chuck in the tap. the pressure switch has two wires on it. the one going to pin 42 of ecm cut and insert a diode, point the banded side of the diode to the switch. now mount a spst switch near the unit. ground one terminal and connect the other to the same terminal on the pressure switch you connected the diode to. this will do several things. to get air simply turn on switch. the diode keeps from throwing fault code and does not require the key on . the tank is not needed but if you go that rout it takes more plumbing and electric or you will have a first use exhaust brake delay while the tank fills

Thanks

Thanks CKelly!

Two questions. First any more info on the diode... specific type? As I understand it the Diode will act as a one way switch which will prevent the backflow of current and thus triggering a fault code.

The second question is what is a "SPST" switch?

Thanks again,Eddie

the rating on the diode is not to critical i use 2. 5 amp 1,000 volt diodes because i bought a bag of 250 for twenty cents each i think radio shack has them for about 60 cents try not to go below 2 amp or 400 volt i keep forgetting to keep it simple, spst stands for single poll single throw. in more better words a plane old ordinary toggle switch

I knew it was something I should be able to piece together if I had enough clues. Unfortunately my training isn't in electronics and I couldn't figure out the spst... so simple! Thanks again!

I have the BD brake and I feel the brake is a little weak when towing. Not sure I have it set right. Any suggestions for making it stronger when towing. The adjusting knob says 65. I have the shifter switch and it works great.

When I finally get to installing it and tweaking I will let you know. There is a pneumaticall activated piston that throws the butterfly. There is a locking nut that adjusts the piston clevis and I suspect that if you rotate the clevis 1/2 turn after loosening the jam nut you would have improved backpressure... .

to check and adjust the pressure is very easy. on the right side of the regulator is a 1/8" pipe plug with a allen head. remove and screw a 100 psi gauge in. temporarily unplug the wire from the pressure switch that goes to pin 41 of the ecm. next place a jumper on the pressure switch and ground. pull the knob out and set pressure at 65 to 68 lbs, push nob back in remove jumper and gauge replace wire, drink beer.

Elavenrier and Ckelley1, Thanks for the tips, I will try both. I have a gage hooked up that is piped into the cab, but I don't have it in the right place as Ckelley1 indicates. I will hook it right then adjust. I was getting manifold pressure. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Ckelley1,
I could not get the plug out for fear of breaking something, so I took the fitting off down at the piston and connected my gage. The reading was a little high at 70 psi. I turned it down a fuz. Looks like the next step is to mess with the clevis at the piston to make sure the valve is closing all the way. Is it suppose to close tight? There is another clevis on the valve, but is is hard to get too. Witch one should I work on?

Tip to Elanenrier, When mine was install it was installed with heater pipe touching the brake housing with the vibration I am worried that it will wear a hole in the heater pipe. Make sure there is a small clearence between the pipe and housing.
Thanks for your help
