Comm'on guys... ... ... . I know someone here is running a BD brake with an auto... ... . if not the 48RE. Just need to know how you like it... ..... issues... etc. I hear that the BD TOW LOCK has a O/D lockout... ... . I would be interested to know how that works..... i. e. how it is operated.

Have had one on for about a year. It works as advertised. I also installed the Towloc to keep the transmission TC locked a little longer. I use the ebrake with just the tow/haul engaged and it does just fine. I have a friend with an 06 and the Towloc comes close to emulating the ECM program the 06's have. The 06 has the better system, but I am happy with my 05 as equiped. The Towloc also has a warmup feature that I like in the winter. The BD ebrake and Towloc are very close to the 06 Jake setup.

I'm the friend with the '06 Gary mentioned. I also have a '98 with a BD brake that I've flat been thrilled with. If you tow at all you won't regret spending the bucks for one. I tried the Towloc with it and liked the programability and performance but it had some compatability issues with the Calif. smog stuff and kept setting trouble codes. I pulled it and went back to the BD Autoloc. As Gary says the brake seems to work fairly well with just the Tow/Haul on his '05.

I have one installed on my 05, LOVE IT! Holds 21k combined weight down Cajon Pass with ease. I have the TowLoc system. Haven't tried to program features yet. Does a really good job out of the box. We installed everything without any problems. Instruction were clear. Would have been nice if the Towloc was Plug & Play, tapping into the wires took longer than the E-Brake installation. LOL!!! Like the engine warm up feature in the mornings. Half the time for the truck to warm up. My truck is completely stock, other than the Cold Air Intake. 20K on the Engine Brake, no problems with my 48RE.

Questions

What is the difference between the TOWLOCK and AUTOLOCK? Also can one turn off the O/D with either of the two listed above? As you know the 05's don't have a O/D on-off switch. Do you have pictures of where you mounted the gear on the dash?

I can't help ya with any info rehgarding an auto, but I can help a little with the BD brake. I've had mine for over 100K. Only problem was last winter it wouldn't shut off. Have you ever seen how much smoke pours out of one of these engines at 2700rpm trying to "pop" and exhaust brake? "Holy smoke!" doesn't begin to cover it. What I found was the pivot points on the ends of the air cylinder were froze up tight. Took it off, cleaned it up and anti-seized everything and it's been perfect ever since. I'll do it again before winter sets in.

If I had to do it again I'd be more patient and wait for the turbo mount instead of getting the inline like I did. It's just that much closer to road salt which probably caused my issue.

Thw BD Autoloc was installed whenI first got the BD brake. At the time they had 2 options, the Autoloc and the Torqloc. Both controll T/C lockup but notO/D. The Autoloc holds lockup after it is achieved by the transmission and the Torqloc forces lockup when you hit the switch. I converted the Autoloc to Torqloc with guidance from BD Techs. They both work a bit like the "mystery switch" explained in many posts in the forum but are more sophisticated. The Towloc controls many more functions including shift points up and down, e-brake activation and release, T/C lockup, etc. I put a switch on the dash and indicator lights in a pod on the steering column.

Just Tow/Haul mode with EB?

GSchroder... ... ... ..... is it recommended that you just use the Tow/Haul mode with the EB? Does it work just as well that way? I thought that without the software the TC would unlock when there is no throttle input.
