Subject pretty much says it all. The instructions that came show the 2nd gen but it was no problem to figure out where things differed. Time to install was one beer. BD claims a 20% reduction but says it feels like more on their website. I cant argue, it does feel like more. Nice little bomb for those so inclined.

krabman,

I was looking at the quickshift on the BD website and thought it looked great. Is there any way you could post a few pics of the completed install so I can see how it looks. I am trying to decide between the NV5600 and the 48re when I order. If I go with the 6 speed, I will definitely get the quickshift if it looks good. Your input may help my decision.

Thanks,

Adam

There is no change in looks, everything is internal so I pic wont tell you much. The kit is nothing more than a spacer that goes under the existing tower and the input portion of the stick that is longer on the bottom half to move the fulcrum point up and hence the shorter shift throw. The position of the shifter is moved a very slight amount towards the driver but you wouldnt notice if you havent been driving one. They kit is only for the six speed, they are working on one for the five speed. When I ordered mine they had just got in their second run, the first went fairly quick. That makes me think you might see a five speed setup soon as the market has proven out.

Merric,

They are NOT interchangeable but I'm told they are working on a kit for the 5 speed as well.

I just installed mine today and took measurements before and after. It's a very simple mod with good instructions and it only took about 1/2 hour.

It's a 30% reduction in throw. Oo. Nice improvement in feel.

krabman,

I was under the impression that the shift looked entirely different from the stock one. You know, the way new B&M ones do. Thanks for the input. I was aware that the primary difference was a new placement for the fulcrum, I just dodn't know how. Thanks for the info!

krabman or bighammer,

Any difference in ease of shifting?

Is Reverse any easier/harder to get into?

Any special tools required?

Shifting effort is unchanged, including reverse. Torque specs for the shift tower is 7 to 10 ft lbs. Mine only goes down to 20 so if you dont have one of the little torque wrenches you will have to borrow or give it a little Kentucky windage like I did. Other than that only basic tools are required. BTW, mine was leaking out of the spacer and I just reinstalled the thing, hopefully twice is a charm.

It might take VERY slightly more effort because you have lost some leverage. It's not a problem though. It also removes some of the slop.

The worry I had was that the gears would be closer horizontally as well and I might get 4 intead of 6 or 3 instead of 5 but no problems with that at all.

Very happy with it.

Leaking out of the spacer? What's in there to leak?
