Thinking about adding the BD Short Shifter to my ride.

Right after they hit the market, there was quite a bit of pro and con discussion going around, but it has kinda faded away.

Is anyone "Experienced" and willing to disclose pain or pleasure?

I like mine!

I like mine. I can actually speed shift the 6-spd. Just one point: The short shifter will not cure a bad shifting transmission, it just shortens the throw.

For my two cents, it was worth the $ and effort.

I don't like mine. If I had to do it again, I would have put the money elsewhere. I don't drag with it and the shorter throw isn't really that much. Just my . 02

I have a short shift on my 2003 5 speed and love it. Real cool to shift close together. Only thing it takes a little more effort to row through the gears. Other than that it is great.

98's and up still use NV4500 5spds, they just have a different top cover. If you can find a 98 or newer top cover with shifter forks and shifter it will bolt up to your 97 or older NV4500. Someone on NW Bombers did it. I will be doing it with my next truck.

I was trying to remain silent, but I can't. Do a search on my name and read the tale of woe that BD put me thru, with the shifter and lousy service. Then make up your own mind... ..... Sarge

I second the making sure that it's clean and sealed. My six speed slings enough fluid that I had to replace half of it when I found out it was leaking. I had only driven 40 miles...

Other than that, I love it.

I know a guy who has a used one for sale. He ran it for a few months and on a whim, put the stock one back in. Now the short shifter is for sale. I do not know how much. PM me with a phone number I can give to him if you're interested.

"Your right. It's the 94-98. 4 like ours that can't get it. "

Now I'm more confused. Is it '98 and up or '98. 5 and up (ISB's) that can just bolt-in the short shifter without needing a new top cover?

98 & up the short shifter works on. That's when dodge redesigned the interior and New Venture made some changes to the transmission to evidently. So the 97 and back would need the whole top cover of a transmission made in 98 or newer.

Understand?
