BD twins versus HX35/HX50 twins.

Now that the BD twins are out and proven I would like to ask this question again. I know that 3b's are dirt cheap dinosaurs and everyone uses them because of cost. But if you are only looking for 450 to 500 usable hp, what would be wrong with a small wheel 35 and an HX50 sized turbo on the bottom with wastegates on both? A 50 is supposed to be good for at least 550 hp. Wouldn't it spool quite alot easier than a 3b? If egt's at 450hp to 500 hp can be controlled with a pair of S300's, I don't see why a 35 and an hx50 or any of the 1000 or so cfm turbos couldn't accomplish the same task. It might make for a better towing setup having more power available in the 10 to 30psi boost range.

The BD twins now come with a S400 on the bottom. You would want to make sure you get a current kit though. Not one that has been sitting on someone's shelf for 8 months.

How about and H2E? Does it flow more or less than an HX50?

Well scratch that comment. It appears that the older, original kits came with the S400 on the bottom. The newer kits come with a big version of the S300. That's a shame as the S400 kicks major butt as a bottom turbo.

Another interesting thing is that the S300 costs more than the S400. Which leads me to believe that there may me some merit to having the smaller turbo on the bottom.

Is it really smaller though? I mean, I haven't seen the two sitting side by side on the bench to compare, but supposedly they put a custom housing and wheel on the S300 that they are using and they won’t say what size, so there really is no telling what your getting. Does anyone know for sure how the custom S300 they are using as their primary compares to a S400? Smaller for sure…but by how much? BD tells me that it was designed to match the flow of an HT3B. Just curious if that is an accurate statement. The S400 outflows the HT3B, so it is possible.
