BD VGT for 5.9?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Thrust bearing failure

Power loss

Anyone have any feedback on how these work? I'd be looking at the "stock" set up. The performance version is $1K or so more, and frankly I don't have the fuel for it nor need it.

Thanks.

Bump for this question. Looks pretty cool. I sent BD a question as to if I could keep my existing manifold, and if it can work in conjunction with my current EB. Combine that with the BD tapshifter trans and my '06 would be like a new, modern truck!

Of course it is certainly possible that it was YOU that started the thread over there ... LOL !!!

  • Funny that you should ask this right now, as I UJST came across this thread on CF earlier this morning.
  • that has some useful user info--

Nope I swear it wasn't me... it was the one armed man! ;-) I actually got this vid

in my youtube feed, watched it, and then came here to look, and the OP question was the only mention. So I figured I'd try to resurrect it.

It looks promising, but like other controllers the exhaust brake function doesn't tie into the ECM so it's not compatible with cruise control... such a major oversight.

I supposed one could wire it that way, but the instructions should include it.

Since my "factory" Jacobs EB is tied in with Cruise, could I potentially run this VGT turbo and put the EB part/function on a switch? So only use it in conjunction with my Jacobs brake going down a serious hill (like Wolf Creek Pass in SW CO)?

I don’t think the exhaust brake will attach to the VGT turbo, and even if it did you don’t need it.

By looking at the instructions and wiring harness I think it could be wired to use the OE exhaust brake circuit, but that’s just a guess.

10 or so years ago I bought a used HE351VE to install but sold it since the only controller, don’t recall the name, at the time didn’t use the stock exhaust brake circuit either. It seems crazy to lose the exhaust brake while using cruise control.
