Whatya know about TST?

I've heard many good things about the DTT Trans! What about the BD Trans? Anyone got one? Good or Bad... .

TIA,

Clay

A search will yield lots of reading. The "transmission wars" of the past have shown that both companies have products that can satisfy there customers needs and each is constantly improving the product.

Clay,

I want to put this paragraph at the top and the end just to clarify things.

I buy all my own parts, I am not affiliated or sponsored by anyone or any company. I buy what I feel is best for me from who ever I want, when I can scrounge enough money together.

BD was one of the pioneers in developing better parts for the aftermarket automatic transmission. They were there long before the two big rivals on the TDR you read so much about recently. You do not hear much from them on the TDR because they are a quiet bunch and in my opinion why create a bad reputation through bickering. In the beginning BD had a few problems when trying to develop new technology of that day in time. It is only natural that when you are the leader or beginner you would encounter a few problems, since then BD has grown to become one of the biggest companies in producing aftermarket parts and variety of parts. A few of the men from BD have gone off and started their own companies, I will not get into who but you read about them on the TDR almost every day.

Here is an example of why I feel the BD transmission is superior, remember this is only my opinion and every one that runs an aftermarket product thinks theirs' is superior. There is a stretch of road we travel six months out of the year every weekend towing 22,000+ pounds that is 70 miles long and we have to stop or slow down and turn 9 times within that 70 mile stretch. On the return trip we do the same thing. That's like stopping every 7. 8 miles and racing nine times, Add in the return trip and in 140 miles we stop and race every 7. 8 miles for 18 times. A lot of people on the TDR claim there transmission will hold up to all kinds of HP while racing, but the abuse I put mine through is nothing compared to them, Why, because I go from 0 to 65 MPH with my foot close to the floor using 300+ RWHP pulling 21,000 to 22,000 pounds in tow. These guys racing with High HP are not towing anything ( except the sled pullers ) and I doubt they race or sled pull 18 times every weekend for six months out of the year.

I have a BD transmission in my 98 12 valve. I have been happy with my choice, with 22000 miles on it, it has been with the exception of a couple minor adjustments when it was first installed, it has performed flawlessly. Unfortunately on this forum it is almost impossible to ask a transmission question without starting a war. If you do your homework and ask the vendors the tough questions you will find what transmission is right for your application. I have been very pleased with my choice. The best part of owning a BD transmission is you know you bought the best and you don’t have to spend all your time on this web site defending you choice, you just site back and smile.

Good Luck, Jeff :D :D :D :D

imo you are asking about the 2 best transmission's out there. i'm sponsered by bd so i'm a little biased;) i'm actually there right now. they just pulled my transmission that was installed in mid may of last year. the 2nd gear band and the 3rd gear clutches showed some wear. the convertor cover looked brand new, as did the clutch.

now this is with the sled pulls at muncie and schied plus three local pulls. it has also had over 100 drag strip passes. plus if you add in the 20k+ miles i put on it i think it did great. i couldn't be happier with my bd transmission.

some of my good friends that i compete against run dtt stuff with good luck also.

Just "For the Record".....

The reason I was asking (not trying to start a transmission war) was because of the price differences between the two transmissions. I may not be comparing apples to apples but the BD is approx. $1000+- less than the DTT. I know the DTT is a fine transmission from all that I've read on TDR & the many people on the NW Bombers that have them installed.

Just trying to get different opinions. I primarily use my truck as a daily driver & pull approx. a #6000 5th wheel on vacation. My truck is bone stock & I'm wanting to do some MODS but am afraid I will lose my stock transmission if I do. I should say I have 98000 miles & knock on wood it's still shifting fine.

Thanks for the input!

Clay:)

i believe if you check with BD, there transmission price doesn't include torque convertor. If this true, then they are both closely priced.
