Has anyone installed the X Monitor pyro probe post-turbo without welding on the fitting supplied by BD? The downpipe is a casting, is it too thin to be drilled and tapped by itself? The main purpose of my pyro is to monitor cool down temps. I'm leaving the engine stock and am not interested in a pre-turbo mounting. I'd also like to get by without taking my downpipe to a welding shop although I will if I have to. Thanks...

I would talk to some BD dealers. You can find them on the web. My X Moniter was installed without welding any fittings onto the exhaust pipe. It looks like it was drilled and taped into the elbow behind the turbo. Also be very careful about your ground when wiring. I had nothing but problems with the gauge until the ground was rewired in a more positive manner. Now it works fine and I sure do like it.

Thanks Mick. I have seen pictures of pyros drilled and tapped into the elbow behind the turbo but the BD kit includes a threaded fitting that the instructions say should be welded to the elbow. The pyro threads are 1/4 npt and I was hoping that the cast elbow was thick enough to tap without using the extra weld on fitting.
