JLEONARD requested pictures of the bearings in a 1993 engine I am working on. The odo shows 270,000 miles. I decided to replace them because of the condition that the rod bearings are in, but the mains look about like new. Here are the pictures for anyone interested. I only took pictures of the top rod bearings and bottom mains.

Thank you for posting the pics.

Not what I expected to see based on most of the comments I see in these forums. I expected to see them in better condition.

I would change them as well.

I would say that is about normal wear for that milage.

A place I used to work for we replaced bearings on NTC350's and 903's at

250k they looked about the same as those. You should see a set at 500K.

Interesting, looks like maybe that engine had a cyl or 3 putting out more grunt than the others (copper coming thru), poss injectors need balancing?

I thought maybe that to about the cylinders not being the same, 3 and 4 are about the same 6 isn't too far behind and 1 looks pretty weak. At first I pulled one and 6 and saw the big difference and thought maybe the oil pressure was just not as great farther down the line, but the way 3 adn 4 look I don't know whats going on for sure.

How easy is it to change all the bearings while the engine is in the truck on a 4x4? Is it even possible?

I did that on a Chevy straight 6 many years ago. Was not too bad of a job.
