Yep...
I 24-hour test drove all three big diesels (Chevy, Ford, and Dodge), stick and auto, last year, before I bought mine.
The Allison in the Chevy is nice, but personally, I like the feel of a "positive" gear change like in the 48RE better than the 'mushiness' of the Allison. Overall, the Chevy drove nice, but it was lacking low-end torque big time, pulling the Montana. Especially hurt going up the hill to our house, pretty steep, and from a stop...
The PowerStrokes didn't even make it home with me - no, they didn't brake down, but I didn't like the ride, so I dismissed them off the bat.
Fo me, the overall best package was the Dodge/Cummins. Lots of low end torque, nice on they eye, good cab space, and I loved the fold-out rear seat cargo rack - perfect for the shepherds. Pulling the Montana was really nice, and going up the hill to our house, after a full stop, made all the comments I heard about 'low end torque' materialize! The manual was too hard for the wife to drive (mainly clutch push), so I got the auto - lazy me was leaning that way anyhow

.
Don't regret it a bit. And I have left many a Powerstroke and Duramax in the dust pulling the Montana, both from a dead stop, and on the Interstate going up hills. And frankly, if I wanted something to smoke people from the red light, I'd buy a Viper, or maybe a 2005 Mustang Cobra (more affordable

)...
For what I use it for (pulling Montana & flatbed w/ horsefeed, lawn mower, etc. ), this truck is perfect.
