My son is out of town - he just bought a new 06 4 door SHORTBED - not a megacan. We ordered a top for him and told the guy it was a shortbed but didn't mention that it was a 4 door. Can I assume that the shortbed on a 4 door is the same as a regular cab model or is there something special about the 4 door that would make the shell different????????? I mean is the back of the window the same etc?????

Yes, there are only the two beds. The short (6'3") is available on Quads and is standard on Megas. There is no way to get a regular cab shortbed with the Cummins (as much as some would like one) - that configuration can only be had as a 1500.

I had someone selling a topper off of a "04 reg cab claiming the reg cabs had the longer beds like my '99 so it would fit my '99, looks like they are also shorter...

There are two different lengths of shortbed. I don't recall the exact numbers, but when they changed from the suicide doors to the true 4 door the cab got longer by about 6 or 8 inches and the wheelbase only increased by about 2 inches. The difference came out of the bed between the rear axle and the cab.

I found this out when researching what truck to buy. Initially stayed away from the 4 doors because I didn't want the extra wheelbase, but when I found out the difference was so slight I bought my 05 4 door.
