2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bed Rails

I have some bed rail caps I'm working on. It's 1/8" bent to fit the 2 bed rails and the headboard.





Now... if I weld all 3 pieces together to make a "U", is that going to be an issue?



I was told not to mount a fuel tank to the bed floor and bed rails, either one or the other.



Same deal with the bed rail caps?

I would suspect there is a bit of movement/flexing between the bed floor and bed rails. Tieing the bed floor and bed rails together via fuel tank or tool box would probably make things too stiff and crack the spot welds.

Right... how about just the bed rails though?



I'm leaning toward making it 3 pieces simply for ease of installation at this point though.
