anyone using a bed rug www.bedrug.com with your 5th wheel hitch rails ?

did you just cut the bolt holes out of the rug and mount the rails on top ?

i was thinking that i could just cut the bed rug the size of the 4 steel spacers(approx. 1" x 2") that go between the bed and the hitch rails and the rails would be just as secure/tight/safe as they are without a rug.

I have a standard bed liner. What I did was drill 1. 5" holes through the bed liner where the rail mount bolts go. then used washers as spacers (plus the Reese spacers) to mount the rail up above the bed liner.

This way the bed liner is free to "float" under the rails. Sure you can get dirt under the bed liner through the holes, but I never hall anything like stone or dirt.

I also added bolts in the middle in case the rail tries to flex since its now not mounted flush to the bed floor.

I ran this method on my 96, my 98 and now my 2002. Never had a problem with any of them.

I started with one of those bed mats. Around 3/8 thick or so. Cut the front two feet out when I mounted a tool box. Cut the next two feet out when I mounted the hitch. When I picked up my 29 Alpenlite the dealer told me to secure it or loose it. What does he know. That piece of matt is heavy. 7 miles down the highway it took off under the trailer. To far to turn around and go get it. I liked being able to remove to clean out underneath. If you bolt it down it will collect all kinds of debris. Just beware there a huge mass of air being pushed down by the 5ver.
