I'm thinking about replacing the carpet in my floor with either a rubber mat or a roll in bedliner material. I'm thinking about using durabak brand bedliner- they have colors and I like the samples I've recieved.

Underneath the carpet are several patches of what appears to be an asphalt based coating. I was wondering if anyone has removed this and treated their floors with a roll in bedliner? I'd like to know if the liner will adhere to material directly, or if it has to be removed. How can it be removed? The stuff looks like it'd leave a residue. Any ideas?

I certainly don't want to put the original carpet back in- its fairly smelling from all the water leaks/mold growth. :{ I use this truck for work- and I'm often in and out of mud, so a more durable floor is more necessary anyway.

Thanks for your help! Oo.

Andy

edit: I contacted durabak directly and they suggested I try a small container first. I'd like to get feedback from folks who might have used it already. ;)

Andy,

I coated the interior (including under the headliner) with a thick coat of herculiner(made by same folks as durabak). i coated the sound material that you are refering to, and then I used B-Quiet brown bread on top of the herculiner, and then Used a new heavy vinyl flooring. The herculiner and durabak are good for this application as they have bits of ground rubber in the mix and that helps absorb sound

So you haven't had problems with the herculiner peeling up on those areas that have the sound deadening mats? Is there anything special you did for prepping these areas?

I talked with a rep at durabak today and read some more things on the herculiner and durabak websites. I already have a sample so I'm somewhat familiar with the texture. I might just try this... I'm thinking two coats of standard black and then two coats of grey or tan(the interior is tan, the truck is grey :confused: ) on the floor and the tailgate(there is already a spray-in liner in the bed.

I'm also thinking about removing the trim on the side of the truck and coating from there down with smooth gray durabak. Oo. All those gravel roads I've been on have done a number on the paint... :( Now to figure out what color to paint it, the roof and fenders are peeling. :( :( :{

I had a Bronco II that I did the Herculiner thing on the entire floor. After removing the carpet I thoroughly prepped the area and applied a coat of POR-15. Then scuffed it and rolled on the Herculiner. It was great... but a bit noisy (I didn't install any new carpet or any kind of sound deadener).
