just installed 4 new shocks at 45k, it took less than 2 hours with proper tools. looked at truck this morning and saw front shock beilstein part number be5-2549 with oil on it and front axle colored dark with oil. called off road warehouse where they were purchased and they told me they do leak some and if i want a replacement, i need to buy a new one, send the leaking one back, and if it leaks more than specs and only if , will they credit the shock. it this normal? do anybody's leaks like this? as for the ride, it seems the same as the oems shocks , kinda disappointed.

This is the first I've heard of Blisten's leaking oil. I've read almost every shock thread for some time, since I'm in need of new shocks, and never recall folks saying their Blisten's (or any other shock for that matter) leaking oil. Sounds like a bad seal. My thought is water, dirt, etc will most likely enter the shock by the same route the oil is leaking out.

I have 160000 miles on a set of Blisten's on my 1990 Chevy 1/2 ton Z-71. I purchased this truck new and I must say the shocks are outstanding. They maintain 98% efficency up to 100k miles. Yes they are getting a bit soft now after all these years but, oil leaks? No way! I'm putting another set on soon. The person who said they all leak a bit is cracked:rolleyes:

Sounds like Offroad Warehouse is a good candidate for my list of places NEVER to buy from... ... No way those or any other new shocks should be leaking oil... ... .

what ......?

I've never heard of any oil seepage from suspension components as being "in spec" - you have a bad shock and ORW should replace it. I'll bet that the reason that you have not felt an improvement over the OEM shocks is that the leaking Bilstein shock is not providing damping like it should (just like the OEM shocks. )

Call Bilstein, see what they have to say. I recall there paper saying "they might get damp" but mine are as dry as when I installed them 2 years ago.

thanks for all the help and quick response. i ordered another shock and will install it when it gets here and send the leaking one back. i feel confident that they will credit me for the leaking one.

thanks again.

Kurt, keep us posted on the Bilstein shock and how ORW treats you. I had the Bilsteins on my 2000 and I liked them, but I did not buy from ORW. This time I was going to buy from them for my new truck because of the TDR discount. BUT, I want to see how they treat you before I buy.
