under the frequently asked questions, they talk about this. The combination of inertia from the fan and the high compression of the engine equals fast engine stopping and the fan not wanting to stop that fast
Mice under the hood? No. Cummins says this noise is normal and is caused by the engine stopping faster than the belt can. High compression says “whoa” while the fan says “go. ” The result is a “chirp” from the pulley. If the viscous fan clutch is “locked up” at shut down, the “chirp” may be heard in the next county. Belt wear and tensioner condition will also determine the decibel rating of your “chirp. ”
I would think with only 5k on the odometer it would be a bit early for a new belt??
can we assume that as long as it chirps, the belt is OK??, as in not too worn. i may be wrong, but the chirp indicates to me that the belt still has some traction on the pulleys.
Music to my ears. Almost as sweet of music as when I stand on the throttle with the left window down while passing a retaining wall.

I always just check for small cracks in the grooved side (at each oil change), then replace when I find them. Never had one leave me walking yet. I've seen them still run with chunks missing from some of the mirco-vs, but that is getting real MARGINAL.
I actually kind of miss it - my current truck doesn't chirp like the last couple have.
Get's the Brand F owners attention when 3 or 4 Rams pull into a truck stop or rest area pulling trailers, park next to each other, then shut down one by one. Turns heads every time.
Do you had the same heat wave we have on the east coast? Mine has done it since day one when it's hot out and I'm running the A/C. I have 70K on the OEM belt while chirping every summer. I love the sound, it reminds me of spring just like the birds singing!
My 12 valver would always chirp when shutting down. January, I pinned the killer dowell pin using the jig and while I had the front apart and the belt off anyway, I decided to replace the original belt with a brand new Gatorback belt and keep the original as a spare. I continued putting it all back together. It doesn't chirp anymore. I acctually miss the chirp even though it always bugged me sutting down with people around. They would aways ask what was wrong.
