Belt started the chirp after if had a few hundred miles on it. 800+now and it has quietened down some. The 03 I had did not do it. Anybody else got this on the 03 or 04?Have not questioned service about this yet. Don't mind it:D

Love the chirp! Chirp is good. It means that your engine is stopping so quickly because of high compression the belt slips a bit as it tries to keep on trucking. Chirp is your friend.

There was a tsb on cracked alternator brackets on the 03's but they fixed it with a new cast bracket to replace the stamped one. Just for laughs check that bracket and be sure that you have the cast one. The cracked bracket caused a chirp.

I got the new bracket and the chirp. Never worried about the sound, kinda even look forward to hearing it. If it goes away I'm going to start wondering what's changing.

I've got the chirp, had it ever since truck was new, does not always chirp but 80% of the time it does. I believe the manual or admendment attachment say's the chirp is normal. Where would you check on the bracket to find the crack. I have checked mine before and never have been able to locate a crack. Is this crack that some develope a hair line crack ( maybe hard to see or what). Is it a certain production time or vin that's affected. Mine was manufactored 11/15/02 according to the data plate on the engine.

Tony,

You will see rust in the crack and it will be where the bracket bends. The tsb is: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2003/08-007-03.htm

Judging by your date of manufacture, you probably have a cracked bracket.

Dean
I went out, and checked again after reading your reply post, still did not find a crack or any rust what so ever on the bracket. May turn out to be a late bloomer:-laf Any way thanks for the tsb info, and I will keep my eye on it. Getting ready any day to pick up some new tow mirrors at the dealership, may go ahead and have them check it out then. Thanks!

The last I checked, there is no Gatorback fan belt made for these trucks yet. This will stop the chirp. I need to check with the parts house and see if they have them now.

in general here at the dealership... when the truck is fully warmed up, The AUTO tranz trucks will chirp, but the manual trucks will not,

could be that the autos have a full t/c that keeps moving?

I know my had NEVER chirped within 9900 miles:confused:

My 03 never has chirped. It did have a cracked bracket tho. Dealer knew nothing about it, had to show them the TSB (dated April) and they still had to "verify" it was cracked. And believe me, i know cracks!! . They changed out the stamped steel with a cast bracket.

All is well.

I talked to my neighbor this afternoon about his 03 CTD, and ask him if he was aware of some alternator brackets having cracks in them. "he said that was first he had heard of it" we checked, and was not able to find any crack, or indication of rust to identify a hair line crack, truck 03 CTD HO 6-speed 2wd, pulls a 20+ ft tandem axle trailer every day his manufacture date 08/31/02 showing on engine data plate. Has just over 50,000 miles on it, and was purchased 10/01/02. Reports to me no major problems so far. Oo. Has any one received a recall on the bracket I know I have not.

Tony,

I don't think it is a recall, only a tsb. If cracked they will replace it, otherwise they won't. Your buddy should have the stamped steel bracket, and he should check it periodically. If a crack developes it should be fairly obvious. He'll be able to see it right on top of the bracket, starting from either or both sides moving toward the center. I've seen a few, some were very short and others were quiet long. Size doesn't matter:rolleyes: DC will replace it regardless.

Thanks Fireman: for the reply "only a tsb" I more or less wanted to call it to his attention about the bracket being faultly in some case's and stated that some people are finding cracks in the bracket. Kinda a bummer you have to wait on the crack to develope before DC will do anything about it. :D

My neiggboor had his crack with 63k on it. They tried to sell him one and quoted like $260. 00 He said NO way. They had him leave. then called back days later and said Rep approved it and He had to go back and get it installed. He was put out over it being a known issue and have to make two 60 mile round trips.
