When the truck was new there was a sticker under the hood that would show the routing of the belt. Check and see if it's still there. Excuse the computer challenged diagram please... Non A/C routing, From (A) Main Drive to (B) Tensioner up and around (C) the water pump, then to (D) Alt. then to (E) Fan, then back to (A). Hope that helps and Good Luck!

I don't know about the '92 but on my '95 the idler pulley w/ the A/C is smooth and w/o the A/C it is grooved. In other words, the smooth side of the belt runs on the idler pulley with the A/C and it runs on the grooved side of the belt on the engine without A/C. I was going to do this but ran into this problem. May be fine, I don't know.

Belts

Had to do this on mine and the first belt I got for non/ac from napa was slightly too long and allowed the back side of the belt to rub on the ac pulley so I had to put a 1/4 inch spacer between the ac unit and the block. When I bought a replacement belt from auto zone it was 1 or 2 inches shorter and would not have been a problem with clearance. Lot less work if you do not have to move the ac unit. Oo.
