I'm going to put the belt routing diagrams for the third gens all in one post so that I can print them and put them in the glove compartment. Please review and correct me if I have something wrong.

Had to remove my belt because the engine brake pump blew a diaphragm. I had the stock belt with me but no routing diagram. Had to walk around the campground trying to get signal enough to pull the diagram off of the TDR.......

So here we go...

No A/C

NOTE!!!!!! If you are by-passing a bad A/C compressor with a belt for non A/C trucks you will also need to put the tensioner guide pin in the other hole on the front cover boss.

Much to my surprise, belt diagram not in engine compartment, made my own sketch then I find Mikey posted one.

Read a few posts for what should have been a minor R&R but became a minor PITA. Two suggestions, remove air box that adds a good amount of eyeball and hand access. I routed the belt over water pump for the last step. WP is not grooved or flanged so it slid on a bit easier for me compared to a grooved pulley.

Better in the driveway on a cold engine than on the side of the road with a hot engine.

I take the breather off and the tensioner as well. Only takes an extra minute and makes it a lot easier. I also do the water pump last.

So you're saying removing the failed vacuum pump & using orig. belt is OK? ...or are you forgetting to mention re-installing the orig. idler pulley? Thanks.

Yes, the vacuum pump is an add on. No idler there without a jake brake. You don't even have to take the vacuum pump off as I recall, the belt will run right by it.

Do you 'recall' doing this or 'recall' hearing it can be done. Bypassing a bad vacuum pump with an OEM [w/AC] belt doesn't look like it will work with the rather large diameter vacuum pump pulley in place, and it ain't easy to pull the vacuum pump to effect a roadside repair. Its bolts are well tucked in, as I watched my mechanic replace the Banks vacuum pump last week.

Thanks in advance for your response.
