I believe theres a belt that you should change when yuo are killing the KDP, what is the name of this belt and does anyone know where to get one for the best price?

I gota Gatorback belt I'll give away for shipping- non-IC with A/C (sorry Bill). At least I think I still have it- hafta get ahold of Mom to be sure. It squeaked worse than the old belt I took off, and since it had been installed, AZ wouldnt take it back. New tensioner, too. Bought a Gates at Carquest (NAPA, maybe?) and had no problems.

I have a Gatorback on right now. Over a year with no problems. I've also run a Kelly-Springfield with good results.

As to having to change it when you do the KDP. It's got to come off anyway, but you could change it any ol' time with not that much problem.

Yup I'd use the Gatorback as well... it's what is on my truck now and when the time comes I'll get another... .

If you are having some belt squeal at shutdown go and get some belt dressing... do not use stuff like WD40 (which I did for years) get proper belt dressing.

That will cure your noise problems real good... .

Oh if you're still having squeal at shutdown even with a gatorback then you may want to examine your belt tensioner... it may be getting weak on you. .

bob...

I used to use belts from Autozone until I put one on my Mazda and the first trip out I went about 30 miles and it broke and caused my engine to heat up and blow the top tank off my radiator. When i went to get it replaced they gave me a hard time even though I was buying a new radiator from them. No thanks I buy top quaility belts from Carquest now even though they are more expensive.

I'd check what I have had on mine for 4+ years and 60 K+ miles... . but the name wore off... . :-laf I think it was a Dayco.

And of course you could always go to Office Depot and buy one of those boxes of large rubber bands. :-laf

You're gettin' a ton of great advice here eh? I guess the piont is change the belt ... . with whatever brand comes up when you spin the wheel of belt fortune.

Good luck.

Jay

The Gatorback is not an Autozone belt. It can be had from other distributors. They happen to carry that line. It's not an el cheapo Autozone belt, big difference.

when i changed my belt i noticed that i couldn't get it off with the auto-tensionar. i had to cut it. then me not thinking puts the new one on and relized that the belt is too small. so that day i took my dad;s truck went back to the dodge dealer and explained that you guys screwed up, we laughted. the computer said that they gave me the right belt for a intercooled with a/c. but the non intercooled belt with a/c was longer. so they rushed ordered it next day i got it. no extra cost to me (i get 20% off every thing i buy there) but i couldn't get it on! it was the right size but the auto tensionare wouldn't lossen up enough to let me get the belt on. we ended taking the altinator off. and using a large bar to get it back on.
