My VE is leaking oil past its gasket pretty fiercely (drips on the ground, and goes along a goodly part of the block), a new pump-to-housing gasket is in its near future ($4 part; 3 hours labor to replace it). I fiugred while I have the pump loose, I may as well take it off, and bench time it once and for all. I timed it, and got close to 1. 6mm, but had the lines in the way, and a afro engineered set up for the dial indicator. I wnat to get it EXACT, or w/in. 05mm. My question is, is bench timing about like timing it on the engine, only you turn the pump to get your lift, or is there something else, besides locking the pump at 1. xx mm lift, once you get it there? I realize I have to have the engine at #1TDC for reinstall, and do all the other stuff related to R&R. Timing pin is dead on, must have been set with new case.
THanks,
Daniel
