benefit of intercooler

What is the advantages of the intercooler. Especially with adding one to a non. Lower egt? Burn fuel better? I'm about to run out of ideas for my truck after I get a PDR HX35, and I doubt it'll have enough power to get me to stop. I was just wondering if the cost of adding an intercooler would be worth it. And if so Bank$? or original out of a donor truck? or custom? I've been thinking about borrowing my dad's out of his 97, but I don't think he liked that idea. thanks in advance, alonzo

An intercooler will lower EGT's by 100+ degrees on non-intercooled engines. The intercooler will take the charged air and cool it to 20 degrees above ambiant temperature thus putting more cooler air into the cylinders. If I ever choose to go to one it would be the Banks setup. I feel it would be easier to install than using another donor truck, but that's just me. As usual... if wrong, someone will chime in. When I was in New Mexico this summer I was really having problems with EGTs due to altitude and heat. My "Alaskan" settings just weren't working. Found a good deal on Banks intercooler so had it shipped to the place I was working. The install was a easy, one afternoon and no part runs.



EGTs dropped 200+ *F across the board. Temperature rise is also rise much slower under WOT and cool down time is cut significantly. Boost was down several psi but no drop in performance. Got most of that back by turning the fuel up a little. Milage slightly better under cruise. Less smoke under load.



The downside is the goofy Banks grill they give you, although I suppose a '92 model could be retrofit. It was worth the money to me, but then again I didn't pay the $850+ that most people want for it.
