Help!! If anyone with a 2nd gen. 4x4 will be under their front end could you get a tie rod measurement from center to center of steering knuckles? 1500 miles after the local dealer assured me that my tie rod wasnt bent, the outer side of driver front tire is wearing badly... after 9g worth of accident damage no problem was found with steering. . nevermind the fact the steering wheel is 90^ off (wasnt before the crunch) & tie rod is now 4" from the front diff cover (was 2"). . TIA for any advice. Ken

When I bent up my 99 I found the 97 and 00 models I looked at had a "Y" type tie rod arrangement, my 99 had a solid tie rod wheel to wheel. The distance from diff cover to rod is 1-3/4.

My steering knuckle is bent, the tie rod arm is twisted. Check for broken rust and paint. A toe in problem should wear both tires. Sounds to me more like a camber problem. I did'nt check the tie rod length because my bent knukle is still on the truck. Also my steering wheel was off center and most of the problem was the steering box pitman shaft was twisted. When i changed the shaft I found it was cracked nearly 1/2 way around.
