OK, so Iam having trouble finding an early 2004 5.9 Ram 3500 with low miles, plus all the options below in my signature, as a replacement vehicle.

Just wondering about my options of having a high mile engine rebuilt if I find one in an early 2004.

Looking for referrals to your favorite engine rebuilder in SoCal. Probably just drive the truck there and leave it for a couple weeks.
But, if Iam going to do that I want to be sure Im dealing with a highly professional Diesel Shop with everything on site they will need to do my job perfectly, just like the other 450 5.9s they've done before mine.

Since I live in southern CA Id prefer a semi-local builder, but Iam willing to drive out of state for a truly pro-rebuilder.

And one other thing. Should I have the injectors upgraded or leave them stock, and still be able to pass CA smog testing?

All advice and experiences welcome.

Nothing against any local rebuilders (we build plenty of engines at my shop), but you won't go wrong with a Cummins crate engine. If it were me, I would use stock injectors with upgraded fuel filtering and then a mild fuel box or programmer later on if you want a little more hp.

Have had personal experience with a 1st gen drop in recon from the store near Colton Ca. EXECPTIONAL PEOPLE one of the family members is STILL abusing the crap out of the truck that it was transplanted in and runs like a dream.

im sure that they have what you need and I don't know about the other stores but in Colton they were a great wealth of info.

Just looked into the location they call Bloomington or Inland empire
