Hey guys:

My truck has 197,000 miles on it and is going to need a clutch quite soon. It's making pretty good noises and sometimes slips.

I occasionally tow heavy and have her turned up a bit. What clutch (brand and type) do you guys recommend? I'll probably do this myself in a couple of weeks. Any special ways to do it? What's the hardest part? Taking out the transmission/transfer case?

Thanks,

John

Call Peter at South Bend Clutch. awsome customer service and clutches. I am running a SBC Con-O on my '93 and it just gets better every day. Smooth with no launch shudder. Great to tow with.

I'm with Bob; the Con O is a great clutch. If you haven’t done a clutch you might want to have someone with you who has. It's really not bad. The thing that irritates me at times is lining up the input shaft with the pilot bearing/bushing.

Ok, I run an auto, :p , so take it easy on me ehhh... .

I thought the original Sachs clutch in the 1st Gens were larger, stronger and generally better than pretty much all replacement clutches, except for the performance aftermarket ones... . I also have been led to believe that re-building the original Sachs was a good way to go at a more reasonable cost... yes, no ??

As I step between the sbc cheerleaders I would advise to check out ALL your options. There are other brands.

I,m with Bob & Old Smoky. I put one in my sons '90 after we installed the '96 engine and it is like day & night compared with the original in mine:) When it comes time to replace mine I'll have a Con O ready to go in!

My original Sachs clutch was a strong clutch with a noticeable launch shudder. Dodge said it was driveline geometry and did a TSB fix on mine. This helped but did not solve the problem. I also tried another clutch which was even worse. Peter at SBC recomended their Con-O and I haven't looked back since. Great clutch and Peters knowledge and customer service are top notch.

BushWakr,

I have heard that too. All I know is that the Con O feels better than the stock clutch. When I pulled the stock clutch to do the transmission conversion it was worn, but still had a little life in it. So, I am not comparing a trashed clutch to a new one.
