I just moved here from Denver, CO and my 2003 H. O. has a oil pan leak... I think? It's on the passenger side front corner of the oil pan.

It won't go away even with tightening the pan bolts. I've got a pretty big oily mess covering the entire front axle...

I know there is Dishman Dodge here in Spokane but should I take it to Dave Smith in Kellogg, Idaho or somewhere in Seattle?

I flew into Denver last Friday to drive our Dodge and 44' triple axle trailer up to Spokane... I noticed the leak before the drive and my wife mentioned it had been happening for "... about a week" and that she thought it was the A/C dripping water...

I had no time to get it fixed in Colorado as the earlist appointment was several days later...

I'm always leary about taking my truck to a dealer but this is covered under the 100,000 engine warranty and I'm at 84,000.

Any advice would be great as I have some flexibility in where I take it.

You can call me at 303. 349. 1294 or email through TDR.

You probably want to check in over at NW Bombers it the Pacfic Norwest Versiion of TDR.

There several member from teh Spokane Area.

I have a friend who has bought 2 or 3 new Dodge trucks at Dishman Dodge. He has been satisfied with them. My son bought his truck at Tom Addis Dodge in Coeur d'Alene. Both are closer to Spokane than Dave Smith Dodge, altho they are supposed to be the world's biggest dealer.

A few years ago I took a Dodge Shadow to Dishman Dodge for an automatic transmission problem. Their incompetence was overwhelming. There has been some change in the personnel since then, but I will NEVER take any of my vehicles there again.

Spokane Chrysler seems to provide good service. I don’t think they do much on trucks, but they do some, and an oil pan leak doesn’t seem too complicated.

I’ve been going to Tom Addis in Coeur d’Alene, Id, although like most dealers, service isn’t inexpensive.

I bought my truck from Dave Smith in Kellogg Id, and took it back there to have some ATS parts installed in the transmission. I trust them also.

Timing Cover Oil Leak

I've got my truck out at Tom Addis in North Idaho last Wednesday and it turns out the oil leak is coming from the timing gear cover. They had to order parts for it last week and I've had to bring my truck in a second time which is really a logistical nightmare since the truck resides in Coulee Dam, WA... a good two hours from Spokane alone... and 22 miles North Idaho.

The dealer is trying to charge me $100 to cover the repair but I think it is covered under the Cummins 100K engine warranty and my truck is at 84K. There should be zero charge... but of coarse the dealership thinks it knows what they are talking about.

This is one of the situations I was trying to avoid but even going out of my way to find an reputable dealer I still am having a bad experience.

I also wanted them to reflash the ECM since my lift pump went out in Feb. of this year and another Dodge dealer (in Burley, ID) did the 2005 in-tank fuel pump relocation. My truck has been throwing the "VIN not programmed in Memory" code ever since and when I drove back though to have them fix it they were too busy and said that any dealer could reflash the ECM and that sometimes the flash, "just doesn't take. "

Ok... so I'm finally back at "5-Star" dealer for the oil leak and the Service Adviser is not very helpful at even perfoming the re-flash stating crap like, "... Dodge only pays for one flash... " "... the other dealer may need to charged for the work since they did it originally. . "

At this point my blood is boiling and I just left. I'm thinking to myself, "Just fix the truck and deal with what ever you need to do to pay yourself back. "It's not your fault... It's your responsibility" I mean come-on.

I know some people will say, "You should of taken it to Dishman in Spokane... " I just can't believe the level of service and the way they try to skirt out of everything!

I'm pretty confident in their mechanic as I talked with him a little last week and he's been working on these since 1989 and seemed like a good guy... that's my most important goal when taking it to a dealership is having a great tech do the work.

The service advisor issue is just annyoing... Should I call Star and raise a stink before I pick my truck up or after I pick my truck up?

If anyone has advice please give me a call at 303. 349. 1294 or PM me soon.

Thanks!

I live in Coeur d Alene area and I went to Dishman Dodge in Spokane for my 05 when I had it. I have heard lots of good things about them recently. Tom Addis has a few young punks working in there. I want experience working on my truck. These kids are straight out of high school it looked like. I'd go to Dishman. There were a couple guys I talked to over there, they both owned and drove Dodoge cummin trucks. Good Luck

I'm pretty sure I got one of their better mechanics as he was an older guy who's been doing it for a while but the Service Advisor was not very service oriented...

I called Chrylser on my way out to pick it up and they said "I would" need to pay a $100 deductable for the Cummins Engine warranty... That contradicts another thread where a guy paid the $100 but ended up getting it refunded in the end... I'm not sure if there is some variable when you still have the 75,000 Power Train warranty in effect or what. I'm at 84K so only the Engine warranty was left... But back in Feb. 06 when my lift pump went out and they did the 2005 in-tank retro-fit I didn't pay anything... But I was within the Powertrain warranty which is warranty that I think officially has a $100 deductable.

They didn't bother to degrease my truck or even wash it so I'll be cleaning up the mess this weekend and make sure that the engine doesn't leak any oil... Didn't dealership's used to wash your rig when they performed any service on it... those were the days.

Well at least you got it fixed before the 100k went out. It's the little things like washing a guys truck that keeps customers coming back.

Well Tom Addis Dodge in Idaho didn't fix the leak... I now have it at Dishman where they say the (1) Valve Cover Gasket, (2) Timing Cover Gasket and (3)Crank Seal Gasket are all leaking and will be replaced...

I think Tom Addis replaced the Timing Gear Gasket and a few other do-dads... only two weeks ago. Continued to leak once I picked it up... actually worse than when I brought it in.

That's a lot of seals to be leaking all at the same time... Motor seems to run good @84K

Should I be worried or take it somewhere to be independently checked?

I think your head gasket is puking!!! Just throw your truck away now, or at least let your landlord take it over... HAHA just kidding.

Well I think if your still under some kind of warranty, when Dishman gives you the exact fix, I would have that in writing ,and also ask kindly, of the tech why he thinks this happened, so you can be informed when talking to Addis or STAR so this can help your case if it has to progress further. Fixing your rig is important, getting others on your side is equally important. Flies with honey thing.

The engine is under warranty but you still have a $100. 00 deductable. No way around that unless the dealer wants to be nice and pay it for you.

The Cummins engine is seperate from Powertrain. No deducatable if under 100k or 5 years. You cannot call STAR and STAR has nothing to with warranty. STAR is for TECHs,dealer assistance with the technical end of repairs. its the engineers. Customers call Customer assistance(1-800-992-1997) whom usually won't give a answer thats not a middle of the road one
