what is the best E rated mud tire for DD/tow rig/hunting truck/occasional off highway driving? I go to school about 4 hours from home and my GY MTR's are louder than my swampers (SSR's) on my trail truck on the highway. They are almost worn out and in my view they are just bad tires in general. I don't mind noise because I can just turn up the music, and now that i'm in MS I know it will be taken back to hunting spots with a lot of mud.

I need a tire that doesn't wear out fast and does great with a load on it. any suggestions?

The toyo mt's are expensive tires but everyone likes them, must wear well.

I found out SSR's come in "e" rated sizes, not sure how they will wear on heavy truck though

I've got Toyo MT's on my truck. I've got almost 9k miles on them, and they're starting to show evidence of actual wear.

there were two brand new ones on the truck when I got it, and I put two more new ones on it. I wouldn't have chosen a mud terrain, but I have been very pleased with how they are wearing, etc.

when they wear out I will be replacing them with an all terrain, but I will definately consider Toyo AT's as I have been pleased with the MT's

I've got Kuhmo Road Venture MT's and I really like them. Other than my alignment being out of whack and eating the 2 front tires, they have done very well. They have a good solid sidewalls, and the tread pattern works very well for me.

I will probably end up buying Kuhmo Road Venture AT's my next time around, as I don't need the MT's.

My Toyo M55s have proved themselves numerous times in mud and snow. They're a bit noisey on the highway but so is the rest of the truck. I have 50,000miles on this set and they are done but of the last 4 sets of tires I've owned these are by far the longest lasting set on my truck. They are an E range tire and a very hard compound hence the good wear

I just put 2200 road miles on my Toyo M/T's last week towing our 5th wheel and they handled well, road noise was pretty low for an MT and I hate road noise. Overall I like this tire and have run A/T's for that past 20 years for their better snow traction and low road noise.

With the RV unhooked I hit 75-80 mph for long stretches and they are very smooth. Still. . I may go back to A/T's when these wear out as a matter of practicality.

I had the Super Swamper SSR's on my last diesel which was a Crew Cab Long Bed Ford. I ran 37-12. 5R16. 5's. They are were E rated and had 35K on them before I sold the truck. I liked them so much I put another set on my Jeep when I lifted that. BUT, next time I will go with Toyo's. I think Toyo's are a better made tire and balance a heck of a lot better. But the SS SSR's are good tires, and I towed quite alot with mine. Just wanted to share that with you. Scotty

I also LOVE the SSR's and I do know how hard they are to balance:mad: But are great tires once balanced:D

Once you had them balanced how did they wear on a heavy truck? And how do they perform when towing?

Toyo MT's seem to be the best option so far

SOMEBODY buy those tires!!! It's killing me that I have the 18" rims! I have about 20K miles on my 12. 5x18 Toyo MTs and am starting to look for a replacement set. GREAT TIRE!

The SSR's on my truck balanced really well, but the set on my Jeep took alot of weight. They are both pretty smooth tires and seem to be a great all around tire. They look pretty aggressive but they are siped and handle all kinds of weather really well. I was pleased with them. I would buy them again if I knew they would balance out better. That is why I will go with Toyo's or BFG's the next time around. They seem to do better in the balancing department. Scotty

My Toyo M55 285's have been very good. When they were new I got into a 100 mile muddy sidehill white knuckle situation North of Pyramid lake where they performed perfectly. I had a slow leak in one after that. It turned out to be mud under the bead. My tires now have minimum tread and are in such good shape that I am looking for someone near Northern Nevada who can retread them. Failing that, I am looking at the Firestone Destination MT's. These are a new design that are I think are being sold at low prices in an attempt to get some market share back after the explorer fiasco.
