Just about ready to order gauges and and have narrowed choice down to these brands ,and just want an opinion from you all about your choice and why you chose what you did.

I chose Isspros myself. The tech guys were completely knowlegable on what was best for my truck, they offered to custom build me any configuration of colors and lenses that I wanted, and they're OEM for lots of big trucks and ag equipment.

The EV series match 2nd gen trucks dash better than any others I've seen too.

I chose Autometer but I am a big fan of the VDO (I've got both). The VDO Vision Series match the OEM instuments very well (problem is that they don't have a fuel pressure gauge with this series).

The Stewart Warner Maximum Performance gauges that I had enterprise engine install are awsome looking gauges in the black face. They match up real well with the factory gauges but they are harder to read in the dark since the needle doesn't light up like the factorys. I also had a couple of good choices for the back lighting on them. I went with the green to closely match the factory gauges but almost put the blue led boards in them. A friend of mine has a set of white faced DiPricol gauges that are chome around the outside. While they don't match the factory, and I haven't seen all there is to see, they are hands down the best looking gauges I've seen so far. Have had no problem so far with either set, but mines only been in for a month now. My friend has had his for a couple of years now.

Check TDR Issue 34, Technical Topics, page 20 for scientific evaluation of pyrometer/egt gauges by Jim Weir. Immediately following on page 25 you will find "Evaluational Opinions" authored by our Fearless Leader. ;)

It depends on what quality you consider is "best". Looks, accuracy, or reliability?

I voted for Isspros because they match my OEM gauges day or night, but dont think they are the best for quality or accuracy.

There is not a doubt in my mind which gage is the best, it is Autometer by far. I have always used them in my race cars and when I first got the diesel, I let some people talk me into Isspro and Diapro. After being unhappy with them for a couple years I took them out, threw them in the garbage and went and installed some real gages,AUTOMETER. Not a day goes by, that I don't pat myself on the back for the move. I should have know.

I believe the fella :) who honchos Autometer is named Westberg  and is related to the Westach Westbergs in some fashion or another. Doesn't necessarily make one better than the other or both equal though now does it?

Check out the article I referenced above for results of objective bench testing of our favorite (pyros) gauge brands. For y'all who can't find or don't have that issue, the bottom line is that they're pretty much ALL THE SAME re: accuracy so you can just go buy whatever you think is prettiest. The two parameters not addressed in the article were reliability and longevity. The author, Jim Weir, said he'd probably go with Westberg because he aviates for a living, has depended on alot of gauges, and never had a Westberg fail. I suppose that counts for something at 10,000 feet with nothing under your wheels but air.

BTW, Y-Knot,

I like your use of "gage" as the spelling for "gauge". I was thinking about this just the other day and suggest we adopt G-A-G-E as the primary accepted spelling of gauge. By eliminating one vowel none of us will have to stress over which one comes first. #@$%!

Reliability and looks are most important to me, in that order. it looks like most folks are voting for Isspro but I too have had autometer in my racecar and did not have a problem . This is my first Dodge diesel, working at Dodge dealership parts dept. sold me on them , always and still do own Chevys but not diesels. I'm the only CTD owner at the GM dealer I work at, so I get ribbed some , but since owning it for about 4 months I've converted one more over , he's looking for a CTD himself. Reading the TDR helped with the conversion. Anyway back to the gauge question, I want to put in gauges that I like and not have to worry about them breaking, I like the Rod Pod from Wildcat Diesel and when I get all the gauges then I will install, Thanks for all the replies.

Autometer & ISSPRO, I have 3 of each in my truck now, no problems with either, and I have had each type for years, problem free.

My personal opinion is the ISSPRO EV look great and are very easy to see at night. The Rainbow EGT gauge is a no brainer, at a glance guage, and when I had my 96, I saw equal accuracy out of both the Autometer and Isspro units (I had one of each)

Another thing to consider is how complete the line is- IE do they make all of the gauges you intend to use?? Isspro and Autometer (Isspro in particular) have HUGE lines and make a matching gauge for about anything you could want to monitor. ;)

I have 3 Isspro & 1 Autometer now. Never a problem with either brand on this truck or in the past. I do prefer the looks of Isspro EV's.

Kev - Isspro may have a "hugh line" but I wish they would do more EV stuff -particularly an electric Fuel Pressure gauge!

I love Hewitt Industries gauges.

I tried Isspro on 2nd truck, look okay--but wiring is total BS.

Hewitts have the look of VDO's and beautifully simple wiring and performance. No FP though.

I have had bad experience with Autometer in the past. I did not like the idea of paying full retail to beta test their product. What good is a non-dampened fuel gauge that swings peg to peg as you drive down the road? They ended up building me one that was dampened but I had to argue with them because they wanted me to ship my gauge to them for them to fix. I guess I was supposed to use a stick to measure fuel in the mean time. Then they send a second gauge for unknown reasons. I sent it back with a note explaining the situation. Then I get a nasty letter demanding the gauge they mistakenly sent. My letter back really needed to be in an asbestos envolope. I have not heard from them since...

I never persued the problem with the odometer that periodically turns 200 miles instead of 100.

Y-Knot, Shoot me a PM next time you throw something from your truck in the garbage.

I like my ISSPRO gauges just fine. If you put a TC in the manifold get the iconel sheath it will easily handle the temps.

The EV line is expanding rapidly..... more styles are being added. You will likely never see an electronic FP gauge in any lin from Isspro. Not enough demand and too much trouble with senders. Rather than make an unreliable product, they chose to stay away from it altogether. I love my mechanical EV gauge, not one bit of problem with it. Only thing is that sometimes I have a brain fart and at a glance confuse it with my boost gauge:eek: Nothing wakes you up faster than seeing what you think is you FP at about 3PSI cruising down the highway!
