Whats the strongest grill gaurd. I hit a deer in Montana last week. $2000. 00 worth of damage. Thank God I have a $60. 00 deductable. Not a fun happening.

Thanks in advance Rich

"Deer" Rich....

You dont want a grill guard, you want a new front bumper replacement! Put the chrome in the attic, and bolt on either a Denver or Reunal... . expect to spend around $1500. The vermin wont stand a chance!

Go with Reunel (Very heavy though) or Denver Off Road, thats what i am getting next. Check out the pictures of both in the TDR Events listing for CT Hooters meet.

I would also agree that a good front end replacement from Denver Offroad or the like would be about as good as it gets, but for those of us who are more budget-minded... I have a Ranch Hand grill guard (they also make good replacements) and I have nailed a couple deer with it, and it's still holding up great. I posted a few months ago about hitting a deer at 70mph and no damage whatsoever except to the license plate. Ranch Hands may seem difficult to get outside of texas or louisiana I think, I got mine in Austin, it was about $300 and it's worth every penny!

I have seen a few "ranch hand" bumpers and they are pretty stout and no where near the price of the others . They are used by a lot of the farmers I know in Ga. I beleive the address is ranchhand.com

Several of us NW BOMBers went on a "field trip" to help a fellow member ("pnwradar") install his new Denver Off-Road bumper several months ago or so at his house. The bumper/grille guard combination is constructed of aluminum and powder coated semi-gloss/gloss black. It looks sweet, doesn't weigh a ton and it won't rust either. Additionally, it was a very easy installation (i. e. , everything was properly engineered and constructed). If I remember correctly, Jon purchased it directly from Denver Off-Road for around $700 something... maybe I'm off on the price however, I DO KNOW he didn't pay ANYWHERE near what Reunel gets for their bumpers.

The Denver Offroad Bumper was installed on my truck at the Hooters meet. I had them clearcoat it over the brushed aluminum. It came out sweet with the silver & blue two tone of my truck.

The price was not $700 however. It was comparable to the Reunel at around $1300 with extra $$$ going to the brush clearcoating. The paint match was even more expensive. I like the reunel bumpers as well and seriously considered them. but the weight issue played a heavy (pun intended) part in the decision. I did get a rear bumper from them however and like it as well.

IThe DO bumper is one of my favorite purchases and even though it's only been on for over week. Everyone comments on how awesome it looks.

good luck

Brushed Aluminum

I have brushed alum. rims and nerf bars. Can you make the picture bigger?? Is there a website where they sell these?

Just talked to Denver Off Road for awhile, great guy, when you call, you will talk to the bumper builder himself. He offers the front bumper in 3 standard versions: Plain aluminum, Brushed Aluminum with a heavy duty clear coat and a black version that uses some type of coating that is alot more durable then even powder coating. If you dont want to use a winch, the winch holes are covered by a front license plate. The front bumper only weighs 135lbs and is 1-1/2" times the strength of a Reunel (this was confirmed by an engineer). The main reason i did not want a front Reunel bumper was the weight and tha fact that is will chip and rust. He also offers a rear bumper to match which the top portion is a lid that opens to store a high lift jack and other stuff. The phone number is: 303-428-0239

EMDDIESEL, unless Denver Off-Road changed their finish process on their black bumpers they were using black powder coat as of early this year. That was one of the reasons Jon's order was delayed for several weeks... they had some sort of application problem(s) with the powder coat (probably not prepped well enough).

Mactruck, that bumper really looks nice! Jon told me the price of the black bumpers was lower than the one you have. BTW, did yours come wrapped up in a carpet roll? Kind of a strange shipping method however, it would definitely be shipper proof.

that bumper again...

i wholeheartedly second and third EMD and mactruck. helped with the install at hooters. relatively easy but many hands make lite work. kev--haven't seen ya behind me yet, but when i do,

i'm climbin' da fence:eek:

Well from what DOR said, his black coating "Is alot more durable then powder coating" so i am guessing its not powder coating anymore. The black finish was $50. 00 MORE then the clear coated Brushed Aluminum

What price was the clear coated brushed alum. bumper?

What do you guys think of clear coated brushed aluminum rocker panels? Would it hold up?

Sky, if i rember correctly, i believe the clear coat brushed aluminum was $1,450. 00 and the black was $1,500 but i am not positive, call him and confirm it. I know it sounds like alot, but when you see one of his bumpers in person, you will understand

I took some pics of my DOR bumper, they're on photopoint:

When I bought mine, it was around $1500 for everything, inclusing shipping to get it to my house. I talked to Lane about the different finish options, and he was exploring shiny finishes at that time. I see the clear-coated one is quite nice, but I prefer the black for my truck -- Lane had called it powder-coated, but he might have used that term rather than explaining the exact method of coating. I know it's quite a thick coat, but that might be due to sending it back several times to get it right.

When it arrived, it was wrapped in plastic, then wrapped in a few yards of carpet and metal-banded together. Sort of odd-looking, but protected the bumper quite well. And, I didn't have to go buy carpet for the cat-tree project later that spring. :D

I hadn't damaged the front end, yet, but as I recall, the front bumper assembly is a bit pricey -- you might find that replacing the front bumper isn't much more than putting a new stock one on. Of course, you would be saving that $2000 damage if you hit something else again. Personally, I haven't had the opportunity to smack any deer, since I put the bumper on.

I imagine there is shipping as well. I do love that bumper. Ill have to ask the NW bomber if they would be interested in this project sometime.

Sky, Unfortunately the TDR website limits the size of my pics here. When I set up a Photopoint account I'll post them bigger. Sorry, if you want a bigger pic, E-mail me and I'll send one out. also check out CT TDR pics @ hooters under chapter events. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20440 there is some good pics there.

John, Layne is awesome at DO. and yes he did ship it rolled in carpet. A very resourceful way and it came in with No Damage It did add about 70 lbs to the shipping weight though.

When I ordered the Black was $100 dollars cheaper than the brush. I paid $1400 and he was having a problem with his painter at the time. Maybe he switched painters? I also asked about custom matching and that was a $250 upcharge.

Also when you order the brush he'll paint the shackle mounts BLACK . Request to have them painted silver at least. the black In my honest opinion, does not look good on a brush bumper.

i have a toughcountry front bumper. it cost $785 shipped to me from texas. it is alot heavier than the DOR bumper maybe 100 lbs. more. toughcountry they have options for a winch and for a front reciever hitch. so far i'm happy with mine.

diamond plate instead of brushed

so i was thinkin' here... . spendin' money i don't have and i came up with this.....

i just got diamond plate rocker covers (haven't installed them yet) from ici in arizona and was wonderin' if'n any of these good lookin' bumpers come in diamond plate aluminum? would diamond plate aluminum be conducive to a winch bumper combo?

just wonderin'

thanks
