Best headgaskets?

I see a big price spread in headgasket sets. Is the quality that much better?

Replaced the headgasket on the Wife's '98 12 valve. First bought a stock Cummins gasket (best stock gasket). However second guessed myself and had a diesel machine shop check the head and they cut it (don't recall how much). Wound up buying a Felpro the proper thickness. I could not see any difference in the two gaskets. Put the Felpro on and all was good till we sold the truck a few years later.
