For all of you guys that have lifted your truck what brand kit did you use? I am only looking at suspension lifts around 3"-4". I welcome all comments about your experience with your choice both pro and con. Also if you don't mind what should I expect to pay for the brand of lift kit you chose?

I am considering lifting my truck so I can run Super Swamper SSR 35-12. 5-16 on it without any tire rub. Thanks for yur input.

I have a chromed out 5" Tuff Country suspension and 3" body lift with 37" Good Year M/T's. The lift has been on for 2 years and have had no problems to date except a snapped trac bar lowering bracket. My tires rub a little on my bumper when at full turn in reverse. I think it's because my wheels are 12" wide and the sport bumper is big. If you use narrower wheels, this should eliminate the rubbing problem. Figure a grand for the lift, unless you chrome it, then I don't want to tell you cause it's nauziating!!! I paid 500 for install. All in all I'm happy with the setup, but the truck is for sale so I can get a CC Ford. (tired of waiting for Dodge to make a real CC and need the room) Good luck and I'll sell ya a BAD AS# Ram for $29,000 if you like!

lift kit choices...

Jetpilot- I am in the same boat, so far I've found the Skyjacker kit for 4. 5", a new Superlift 5" kit not available quite yet, and the Tuff Country 5" kit. The most common seems to be the Skyjacker, lots of options and the users like it. I'd like to see the Tuff Country or Superlift kits in person before I decide for sure, but I'm leaning towards the Skyjacker... Take it for what it's worth.

Snyder- Got any pictures of your truck? If you have a digital camera, I'd love to see some shots of the mounts, brackets, etc. My email is -- email address removed -- if you have anything to send. :)

By the way, I priced the Skyjacker anywhere from 1400 to 2200 depending on options like rear add-a-leafs&blocks or springs, double shocks in front, heim joint front control arms...

ALSO, I saw a truck today with 3" lift and 315/75R16 tires (35" equivalent) and the tires looked REAL SMALL so I may look at 36-14. 50's or 37-12. 50's...

I was originally going to get a Dick Cepek 6" suspension lift, but they stopped producing it when they were bought by Mickey Thompson. Found a good deal on a used Skyjacker 4. 5". I repainted all the parts a "shot-peened" gray to better match the stock suspension and did the install myself. My kit has the dual front shocks, replacement rear springs and control arms without the heim joints. If I were doing it over again, I'd still get the same lift kit, but replace the trac bar at the same time.

they stopped producing the dick cepek 6" system???... no!!!!!!

that system rocked way better ride and much longer control arms. . that was the system i wanted if i ever got a 2nd gen... argh

that sucks. . there is now where to find one huh???... any other systems that compare with really long control arms etc?

thanks

I also found in the back of several off-road magazines a lift kit from Whiplash Performance. www.whiplashperformance.org

The site was down today, but they showed a 5" for about $1100, and a 10" for about $1500 with some LONGGGGG control arms! Quality? Customer support? I don't know, but the site had some cool pics!

Whiplash Performance has either 5" or 10" kits and the arms are about 4' long if that is what you are looking for. Their site is www.whiplashperformance.org but it has been down for about a month. I saw a 10" installed and it looked clean, the reason I didn't get it was because they aren't a name brand, and for reliability and safety, I went with Tuff Country. Also, I dont have a digital camera and dont know how to use a computer too well either. I'll ask my mom if she can do it and post some pictures.

SKYJACKER

I love my skyjacker all in all a good quality product but let me give you all some good advise that I would take myself if doing it over again the kit I purchased was the loaded version 4. 5" with rear replacment springs didn't want add a leafs, dual shocks up front to help with the wieght of the diesel, dual steering stabilizer to help with the larger tires 36"x14. 5, My tires do not rub at full turn. all shocks are the nitro's. I think I paid close to $1,600 few years ago.

If I where to do it again I would take all the stuff to a local paint shop and have a good thick clear coat applied the powdercoated red paint doen't hold up to long. The next thing I would have done was install the DT trac at the same time save yourself from having to do it later the Skyjacker drop bracket will eventually move with the bigger tires and stock track bar will most assuredly be giving you the "Death Wobble" so put the DT in at the same time you do the lift the DT drop bracket is much better than the skyjacker anyway.

Check out my web page (link in signature) for detailed pics of the Skyjacker 4. 5" Double Flex with replacment rear springs dual front shocks, dual steering stabilizer, and DT Trac Bar.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, I will be more then happy to tell my exsperiences with skyjacker

1st hand info

Scott-

Thanks for the info. Would you get the FLEX heim joints again? I've heard they are more 'precise' for control, but they transmit road bumps and variations more than the polyurethane... The pic of your truck with the Ground Hawgs looks killer, do you know what the offset or backspacing is on your wheels?
