Which is the best location for getting your oil press. tap at?I`m thinking the plug on the oil filter housing , next to the turbo feed line. A little help please. I think I`m getting mixed opinion`s and I am starting to get a little concerned, I have already tapped into the port next to the turbo oil supply line, everything seems to be o. k. The oil press. gauge seems to be working just fine 60# cold -30# hot and idling ,In the 50# range driving. Please someone that knows for sure that by me using this location I`m not going to be sorry. thanx

goatherder,
If I'm not mistaken I believe the plug you are referring to is for the oil pressure regulating valve. I would not tap into that area. Just my $. 02.
Don't know off hand where else to try.

Goatherder, there are 3 ports you could tap into on the driver's side of the engine. There is one just above the ECM. It takes a torx head driver to remove it. That is where I tapped in for my mechanical gauge so it wouldn't be a long line to my gauge. I had to buy an adapter since it is metric thread so I could connect to the 1/8" pipe fitting for my gauge. Be SUPER careful to not let any debris get into the hole!

goatherder, I believe the port you mentioned will serve you well. It is the same port I tapped to supply my bypass oil filter system.

The morning before my first road trip with my '96, the oil pressure guage went WACKO! Flitting around all over the place. I bought a throw-down oil pressure gauge, screwed the fitting into the port on top of the oil filter housing, and WA-LA! Instant oil pressure reading. I mounted the gauge under the dash. No ill effects in 16k miles. Never got around to replacing the stock sender.

The port on top of the oil filter is A-OK!

Hey guys,
are we all talking about the same plug here?I thought that this plug is for the oil press. regulating valve/spring assy. and you couldn't tap into it?At least that is what the Cummins ISB O&M manual shows. I sure don't want to be giving anyone erroneous information here. Is there another access tap on the oil cooler/filter assy. that I don't know about?Help?

Phil
