Turbo whistle in new 06??

Hello,

First off thanks everyone this site has been a huge help with everything.

I recently purchased a used 97 with about 148k on it. I've already taken care of the kdp. And plan on doing the dss steering stabilizer and a 3rd gen track bar soon, as well as a set of gauges. I want my truck to be dead reliable for a long time because most of the driving it does is across the country on trips.

So my question is what other mods would you recomend to make this truck more reliable and last a long time?

Thanks

Danny

I think that mods that don't make huge changes are reliable. For instance, big lifts and huge tires wear on the rest of the suspension, brakes, and steering gear. If you add fuel, add air so you're not running really hot. Remember that as power goes up, some parts downstream can't take it. Transmissions, transfer cases, etc. If you're planning on just driving it and not racing or pulling, staying pretty close to stock will give you a long lasting truck.

Now, I'm not saying there aren't some very reliable beastymobiles out there, so don't take it that way. Being religious about changing fluids etc. will also help keep your baby running. Have fun and welcome aboard.

P. S. -Probably the best way to keep her reliable is to hang out here often!

What? ... you cheap!!! :D :D :D Time for a Marco box & some injectors

Danny ... I assume you've got the 215hp, non Calif pump. There's a plate on the side of the motor next to the pump. Don't know if you've researched that pump, but you're lucky! It's capable of LOTS of fuel with only a TST plate. Consider a mild plate, like a #11. You won't be hurting a thing and will pick up some good higher rpm power. I really liked mine & I didn't want to sacrifice any reliability.

If you tow, consider a Mag-Hytec rear diff cover. Adds almost 1 qt. Just because it looks good, get one anyway. :) I've got synthetic everywhere except the motor.

Summit racing carries a wiring harness for the headlights. Do a search on the 12v forum, I can't remember the part #. It off-loads the current draw on the dash headlight switch. When you have your headlights on, feel around the stem of the switch up against the dash, you'll feel it warm. Design flaw ... the switch will go belly up in time. The harness fits well & runs between the headlights & plugs in. Very cool item.

Good luck.
