Have searched the forums for a self contained code reader but haven't found much information.

Is there something I can buy online or at a local auto store?

Thanks,

Jason

J. C. Whitney has one that doesn't need a laptop. I don't know how good it is and the price is $169. 95. I believe you can get them at some auto supply stores too. Auto Zone comes to mind if I recall correctly.

They are pretty common and reasonably priced - I bought an Actron CP9145 - about a $200 unit I bought just before I also bought the "Smarty" that has it's own code reader and eraser. I've only used the Actron twice, it's like new, and I'd sell it for $125 including shipping to anyone interested...

Most major auto parts should have a good unit for your needs, including NAPA - do a Internet search on OBDII readers, and also check Ebay for some good prices.

The actron CP 9145 is a nice unit. I bought one 3 years ago and they upgraded it to work on my 06 truck for $45, which included a new "daughter" board that installs onto the original board inside the unit (very easy) and new software. It also allows real time monitoring of stuff like fuel rail pressure, air temps and such while you drive.

Nice product support.
